Communication occurs when one can express his/her opinion, thought, idea on people, things and situations. Opinion-related meanings in language are regarded as resources of evaluation or appraisal in language. Not necessarily good or bad in a moral sense, attitude accompanies the language utterance every person utters. As one kind of appraisal resources, attitude plays an important role in the expression of interpersonal meanings of language. Attitude refers to a way that you behave towards someone or in a particular situation, especially when this shows how you feel.The aims of this study are to analyze five advertisements in terms of content and to look deeply into the language employed in the discourse of advertisement as well as to find out the Appraisal elements used by Thailand advertisers especially to promote their product and reach the target. In This study, it is found that judgment and affect are appraisal element that most used in Thailand Advertisement because judgment is used to evaluate human behavior towards the product, and affect is used to evaluate the benefit or advantage in the product.
In a song, we can find lyrics which complete and beautify the song and makes the hearer more interested in hearing it. There are many kinds of genres in song. Dangdut is one of them. Nowadays dangdut song is not as good as it used to be and contains uneducated lyrics. In some lyrics, there are many words written using figurative languages. This study focused on analyzing the kinds figurative language that occur in the lyrics of Ayu Ting-Ting’s songs. It consists of four songs. The researchers choose these songs because there are so many figurative languages found in the songs lyrics. Therefore, this reserach examined what types of figurative language and the most dominant are used in Ayu Ting Ting’s songs. The research used descriptive qualitative approach supported by quantitative data in order to explore behaviour, perspective, feeling, and experience as figurative meaning. This research carried out by formulating problem, collecting data, classifying data and analyzing data. After investigating the sentence in the songs lyrics, the researchers found five kinds of figurative language and four songs lyrics that have figurative language. From 4 songs lyrics, there are 9 items of hyperbole, 3 items of metaphor, 11 items of personification, 7 items in paradox, and 1 item of oxymoron. The dominant of figurative language used in the song lyrics is personification and the least is oxymoron.
The use of technology is a demand that must be carried out in the 4.0 era. In the world of education, technology can be used as a medium of learning. This technology-based learning media can be developed according to the teacher's creativity. The teacher's role is very important in conveying knowledge and it will be easy if it is adjusted to the development of the 4.0 era, namely using technological media. SD Negeri Pertiwi Lambarot Aceh Besar District is one of the schools that want to implement this technology-based learning media. Therefore, the author carried out Community Service activities by giving seminars to all teachers at the school, totaling 25 teachers as activity participants. The methods used in these activities are lectures, discussions, and questions and answers. The results obtained from this activity are to add insight into the use of technology-based learning media and teachers begin to develop creative ideas to produce technology-based learning media which can then be implemented in the learning process at the school. The aim of this study is to investigate the types of metaphor, and explain the use of metaphor types in pantun for wedding ceremony in Malay Langkat Tradition. The metaphor types of this study divided into six types, like: active metaphor, inactive metaphor, asymmetric metaphor, subjective metaphor, dead metaphor, and mimatic metaphor. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The data of this study were collected from clauses in pantun that reflected metaphor. The result of this study showed that there were asymmetric metaphor, dead metaphor, and inactive metaphor. The realization of metaphors in pantun were especially existed in Hempang pintu, Hempang kipas, and Hempang batang.
Pantun is a old poetry of Malay which is used as a means of delivering ideas, attitude, and cultural values (Sri, 2010:6). Along the ceremony of Malaynese Wedding, there are a lot of clauses that are used to express the speaker’s ideas that implies hopes and suggestions to the people. Next, the words of Pantun are also used to express the speaker’s attitude towards the marriage like to entertaint the bride and groom. In addition to delivering ideas and attitudes. Pantun is also used to present the cultural values of Malay that keep the kinship among family members. Words arranged in Pantun in terms of poetic values contain philosophical of life, politeness ethics, laws and society. Malaynese is a closed society to say something cannot be directly but must be coated with words that make its meaning disguised but easy to understand. The purpose of this study is to explain the use of metaphor types in Pantun for Wedding Ceremony in Malay Langkat tradition. The use of metaphor of this study divided into four, like: information function, expressive function, directive funtion, fatigue funtion. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The data of this study were collected from clauses in pantun that reflected metaphor. The realization of metaphors in pantun were especially existed in Hempang pintu, Hempang kipas, and Hempang batang. The result of this study showed that there were expressive function was 16 (53%), information function was 9 (30%), directive funtion was 4 (13%), and fatigue funtion was 1 (4%).
