One of the main global problems that affect human health is the development of bacterial resistance to different drugs. As a result, the growing number of multidrug-resistant pathogens has contributed to an increase in resistant infections and represents a public health problem. The present work seeks to investigate the chemical composition and antibacterial activity of the essential oil of Syzygium cumini leaves. To identify its chemical composition, gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was used. The antibacterial activity test was performed with the standard strains Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 25853 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and multidrug-resistant clinical isolates E. coli 06, P. aeruginosa 24 and S. aureus 10. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined by serial microdilution as well as the verification of the modulating effect of the antibiotic effect. In this test, the oil was used in a subinhibitory concentration. The test reading was performed after 24 h of incubation at 37 °C. The results show that the major chemical constituent is α-pinene (53.21%). The oil showed moderate activity against E. coli ATCC 25922, with the MIC of 512 µg/mL; there was no activity against the other strains. The oil potentiated the effect of antibiotics demonstrating possible synergism when associated with gentamicin, erythromycin and norfloxacin against E. coli 06 and S. aureus 10.

Thirty four genera and 215 species of Myxomycetes are present in northeastern Brazil, covering 83 % of families, all subclasses and orders recognized for these microorganisms. Ceará, with an area of 148,825,602 km2, is one of the least explored of the nine states in this region of the country, with records of 27 species, distributed across 13 genera, occurring in a humid forest environment of the southern mesoregion. The dominant vegetation type is the Caatinga (dry, tree-shrub deciduous vegetation), with patches of Cerrado (savanna-like vegetation), Carrasco (montane deciduous shrub vegetation) and fragments of Pluvio-nebular Tropical Subperennial Forest and Pluvial Tropical Subdeciduous Forest. In order to better document the diversity of myxomycetes in that state, specimens were collected from the field between 2002-2007 in Ceará’s northern and northwestern mesoregions. The specimens obtained were deposited at the UFP Herbarium. Eighteen species were recorded, occurring in the Caatinga vegetation and the records of Comatricha, Craterium and Metatrichia increase the number of genera which comprise Ceará’s myxobiota to 16. Arcyria denudata, Craterium leucocephalum, Badhamia panicea, B. melanospora, Didymium intermedium, Metatrichia vesparia, Physarum rigidum and P. tenerum are new records for Ceará, increasing the number of species known to occur in the state to 37.

ResumoLantana camara L., conhecida popularmente por camará, pertence à Família Verbenaceae é um arbusto infestante e ornamental, é uma espécie típica das Américas e África, nativo do Brasil e Uruguai, distribuído por todos os Estados brasileiros. Suas folhas são utilizadas popularmente no tratamento de coceiras, dor de estômago, dor de dente, reumatismo, cortes, gripe, asma, bronquite e anti-séptico. Com este trabalho objetivou-se analisar os potenciais farmacológicos de L. camara. A pesquisa foi pautada em revisão de literatura, utilizando principalmente sites de bancos de dados on-line como "Scopus", "Springerlink", "Scielo" e "Doaj".De modo geral, a espécie apresenta vários artigos publicados em periódicos da subárea "Farmacologia e Toxicologia", ficando evidente neste trabalho que a espécie em estudo apresenta várias atividades e utilidades na medicina popular. Onde todas as suas partes apresentam algum tipo de atividade, tanto biológica (antimicrobiana, fungicida, inseticida e nematicida) quanto farmacológica (antioxidante, antiinflamatório e atividade diurética). Entretanto, a espécie apresenta toxicidade nos seus frutos, sendo então não recomendados pelas indústrias farmacêuticas os derivados dessa parte da planta. Sendo assim, fica evidenciado que essa espécie apresenta uma vasta variedade de atividades, podendo ser atribuídas pela presença de triterpenóides e taninos. Palavras-chave:Camará. Uso popular. (VERBENACEAE):A REVIEW Abstrat Lantana camara L., popularly known as chamber belongs to the Verbenaceae family is a weed and ornamental shrub, is a typical species of the Americas and Africa, native of Brazil and Uruguay, distributed in all Brazilian states. Its leaves are popularly used to treat itching, stomach pain, toothache, rheumatism, cuts, flu, asthma, bronchitis and antiseptic. This study aimed to analyze the pharmacological potential of L. camara. The research was based on literature review, using mainly online database sites like "Scopus", "SpringerLink", "Scielo" and "DOAJ". In general, the species has several articles published in journals of the subarea "Pharmacology and Toxicology", being evident in this work that the species under study presents various activities and uses in folk medicine. Where all the parts have some kind of activity, both biological (antimicrobial, fungicide, insecticide and nematicide) and pharmacological (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and diuretic activity). However, the species has a toxicity in their fruit, and then not recommended by pharma derivatives that part of the plant. Thus, it is evident that this species has a wide variety of activities and can be assigned by the presence of triterpenoids and tannins.
