The aim of this study is to develop a science attitude scale (SAS). For that purpose, the literature review has been done for suggestions for creating scales and a new draft scale developed. The draft scale was analyzed by specialists and a pilot study is done after its approval by experts. The SAS is prepared with 21 items and among these, 11 items are reverse-coded. The SAS consists of Likert-type items. The sample of the study consists of 154 college students studying at the Faculty of Education, Elementary Science Education, and Elementary Education departments. Principal axis factoring with orthogonal rotation (varimax) was used for exploratory factor analysis. Factor eigenvalues were checked with respect to parallel analysis and numbers of the factors were determined with respect to the analysis. Items that did not serve the purpose of the scale were omitted from the SAS. The finalized SAS' Cronbach alpha value is .953. For confirmatory factor analysis data were collected from a different sample which consists of university students who were studying at elementary science education, elementary education, and electric electronic engineering departments. Number of sample is 201. Confirmatory factor analyses run through Amos 24.0 software. It is believed that SAS is a valuable contribution to the science education field since it has unidimensional structure and proved its item discrimination power, and alongside with an excellent internal consistency. SAS also offers opportunity to develop multidimensional science attitude scale. For that purpose, original SAS and English version of it are provided in appendixes.
Web 2.0 tools are the tools helping individuals share information online. Although there are scales which determine the opinions of teachers on using web 2.0 tools there is no scale developed to determine the perceptions of teachers towards using Web 2.0 tools. Thus, aim of this research was to develop a scale to assess the teachers' perceptions related to using Web 2.0 tools at lectures (TPUWL) and determine the factors affecting the perception of teachers. For scale development purpose data was gathered from 240 teachers. Exploratory factor analyses were carried out to find out the structure of the TPUWL. Analyses revealed that TPUWL's structure had two factors. First factor had 12 items and was entitled "Perception towards Using" while second factor had 10 items and was called "Professional Competence Perception". For confirmatory factor analyses data was gathered from 220 teachers. Thereupon, total sample of the study consisted of 460 teachers. Data analyses revealed that TPUWL scale is a reliable and valid assessment tool. Scale's Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient was found as .95. After confirming the validity and reliability of the scale, analyses were carried out to determine the factors which might affect the teachers' perceptions on using Web 2.0 tools with respect to age, education level, experience and gender factors. Analyses revealed that age, education level and experience factors had no statistically significant effect on teachers' perception toward using Web 2.0 tools. On the other hand, it was revealed by the study that gender factor had a statistically significant effect on the perception. As a consequence, it was determined by the researchers that TPUWL is a useful scale to determine the teachers' perception towards using Web 2.0 tools in lectures.
"In this article a recently developed method, Reading Writing and Presentation (RWP) was introduced and compared with Subject Jigsaw Method (JG) and Control Group (CG). CG studied with present curriculum which was designed with respect to constructivism and issued by National Ministry of Education. Research was carried out with 7th grade elementary school students. Number of students included in RWP group was 22, in JG were 27 and in CG were 20. Thus, total number of the students enrolled in the study was 69. Research design was semiexperimental design with pre-test and post-test. Before the study all the students were given a pretest. Pre-test results revealed that JG group had statistically significant academic achievement over CG. After implementing the study, students were given post-test and, both RWP and JG group had statistically better achievement than CG. Also JG had better statistical achievement than RWP. Students also were given a technique view form. Results revealed that RWP is a useful method in developing social and cognitive skills. It is also concluded by the study that constructivist designed curriculums supported with cooperative learning method increase academic achievement and students gain positive social skills"
