A cooperative approach-based Speaking Learning Model (SLM) has been developed to improve speaking skill of Higher Education students. This research aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of cooperative-based SLM viewed from the development of student's speaking ability and its effectiveness on speaking activity. This mixed method study combined evaluative descriptive and experimental designs. The population was the first semester students from Department of Indonesian Language and Letter Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in 4 regencies of East Java Province, Indonesia. By stratified random sampling, 50% of populations were taken as the sample. The research instruments covered questionnaire, interview, FGD, and speaking test. Data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing became the data analyses phases upon questionnaire, interview, and FGD. The data from speaking test were analyzed by t-test in which normality and homogeneity tests were conducted previously. Statistically, both speaking ability scores were different because Fcalculation was 11.380 while Ftable was 3.91 at the significance level = 0.05. Since Fcalculation > Ftable, it can be concluded that cooperative approach gave significant influence in improving speaking ability and was more effective than the conventional one.
Computer-based media such as interactive multimedia plays an important role in learning Indonesian language skills. The objective of this research is to determine the effectiveness of interactive multimedia in learning Indonesian language skills in higher education. This experimental research used the port-test along with a control group design. The population of this research was the second semester students of the Elementary School Education Study Program at four higher education institutions. To determine the experimental class, the random sampling technique was used considerably. IKIP PGRI Wates is an experimental class through which interactive multimedia is compared to three control groups namely Slamet Riyadi University of Surakarta using video subscription media, Tunas Pembangunan Surakarta University applying media prize, and Ahmad Dahlan University of Yogyakarta using the powerpoint media. The data on Indonesian language skills tests include tests of listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. The data were then analyzed using the one-way ANOVA. The results show that the application of interactive multimedia is effectively used in learning language language skills compared to learning using other media. In addition, interactive multimedia can also be applied to study independently outside the classroom.
This study shows that the existence of culture in Indonesian language learning for foreign speakers (BIPA) has an important role. In addition to being used to enrich teaching materials in BIPA learning, cultural content is able to introduce Indonesian cultural identity to the international realm, both locally and nationally. Cultural content in BIPA learning is also one of the strategic steps that can be applied as a strategy to face MEA. Through cultural-based BIPA learning, it is expected that foreign students who learn Indonesian will be closer and know about multiculturalism in Indonesia. This research was conducted at State Universities in Surakarta City, namely UNS and IAIN. Data collection techniques are carried out in three ways, namely (1) Observation, (2) document analysis, and (3) interview. The data validity technique in this study is triangulation technique. Meanwhile, the studies discussed in the study were about the implementation of culture-based Indonesian language learning carried out at state universities holding the BIPA program in Surakarta and several relevant literature studies. © IJERE.
