Das Diterpen Kahweol der Kaffeebohne unterscheidet sich von dem mit ihm vergesellschafteten Cafestol nur durch eine zusiitzliche Doppelbindung. In methanolischer LBsung lagert es bei Bestrahlung 2 Moll. des LBsungsmittels an. Auf Grund der Konstitution des erhaltenen Adduktes sowie der spektroskopischen und chemischen Eigenschaften des Kahweols wird dessen Struktur er6rtert. Die Kdeebohne enthalt etwa 15 % eines ales, das heute technisch gewonnen wird. Darin sind etwa 18 % Fettsaureester der Diterpene Cafestol und Kahweol enthalten2). Die Konstitution des Cafestols ist bekannts-16). Das leicht zersetzliche Kahweol dage gen konnte erst kiirzlich in reinem Zustand gewonnen werdenl); seine Konstitution ist noch nicht geklm. Da es sich durch Reduktion mit Natrium und Alkohol in Cafestol verwandeln laDt 6~9,10), war anzunehmen, dal3 die beiden Diterpene das gleiche Ringsystem enthalten. Reines Kahweol nahm bei der katalytischen Hydrierung mit Pd/BaS04 3 Moll. Wasserstoff auf unter Bildung des bereits bekannten3) Tetrahydrocafestols. Diesen Befund konnten wir durch Titration des Kahweol-monoacetats mit Phthalmonopersaure bestiitigen. Es verbrauchte 3 Moll. der Persaure, ein Hinweis auf 3 Doppelbindungen; das Cafestol hat deren zwei.
