Whole-body vibration and musculoskeletal diseases in professional truck drivers

Abstract: Background: Most occupational diseases do not fit the paradigm of medical interpretation of the health-disease process based on linear causality, in which it would be possible to find a single cause for each type of disease. Objectives: to conduct a systematic review in order to investigate the association between wholebody vibration (WBV) and musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in professional truck drivers (PTD). Methods: The scientific databases of PubMed, Cochrane, Lilacs and Scielo were used to collect articl… Show more

“…The studies [ 48 , 49 ] inform that in terms of vibration, the drivers start having certain physical discomfort, which is mostly the manifestation of the musculoskeletal system diseases. Similar conclusions are obtained in article [50] , [51] , where the authors define the interrelation between the musculoskeletal system diseases and the effect of vibration characterized by the backache. Another research deals with the deterioration of vision caused by hygienic hazards, which may result in the road accidents.…”

“…The human discomfort due to vibration phenomenon consists of something difficult to quantify and in most cases is based on the average reaction to the discomfort that most people experience with this stimulus . A review of several papers shows the clear relationship between musculoskeletal disorders, mainly the prevalence of symptoms of back pain and fatigue, and WBV in truck drivers . There is sufficient information to conclude that the mentioned disorders are the result to the WBV exposure, mainly in the lower frequency range.…”

“…There is sufficient information to conclude that the mentioned disorders are the result to the WBV exposure, mainly in the lower frequency range. The same relationship between cause and effect was also obtained by other studies . However, in order to corroborate the association analysis of cause and effect, more detailed studies are advisable.…”

“…Подтверждены данные ряда исследований о том, что артериальная гипертензия является наиболее распространенным заболеванием у водителей, хотя ее уровень был существенно ниже 58 % [2,8]. Суммарная распространенность болезней опорно-двигательного аппарата у водителей БКС была близка к литературным данным: 40-44 % [3,11,26].…”
