Water‐Soluble, Disulfonated alpha‐Diimine Rhodium(I) Complexes: Synthesis, Characterisation and Application as Catalyst Precursors in the Hydroformylation of 1‐Octene

Abstract: The synthesis and characterisation of two new watersoluble Rh I mononuclear 1,4-diazabutadiene (DAD s ) complexes of general formula: [Rh(DAD s -R)(COD)], where (DAD s = sulfonated-tagged-1,4-diazabutadiene, COD = cyclooctadiene; and R = H or C 10 H 8 ), are described. The rhodium(I) complexes were obtained via a complexation reaction of [Rh(COD)(MeCN) 2 ]BF 4 with the sulfonated α-diimine (DAD) ligands, which were previ-ouslyobtainedfromaSchiffbasecondensationreactionof4-aminophenol with either 1,2-ethanedion… Show more

“…In complexes 9 and 10 [45], rhodium is coordinated to the imine nitrogen atoms (Scheme 3). Both complexes were active in hydroformylation of 1-octene at 75℃ and 4.0 MPa (TOF = 327 and 317 h -1 ).…”

“…Along with organosoluble diimine complexes 9 and 10, Omosun and Smith [45] synthesized water-soluble complexes 48 and 49 (Scheme 14), which were used in biphasic hydroformylation of 1-octene.…”

“…The same authors [117] prepared mononuclear sulfonated 1,4-diazabutadiene-tagged (DAD) Rh(I) complexes 34 and 35 (Figure 22). These were evaluated in the aqueous biphasic hydroformylation of oct-1-ene (75°C, 40 bar syngas), where full conversion was obtained, along with 88 % aldehyde chemoselectivity.…”
