Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) continue to play an important role in vocational training in the current pandemic and Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. Welding is one of the highly demanded vocational skills for various manufacturing and construction industries. Students need to undergo many practical sessions to become skilful welders. However, conventional training is very costly in terms of material, time, and infrastructure. Hence, we explore the intervention of VR and AR in welding training, which includes the research purposes, VR and AR technologies, and welding concepts and activities. We performed a comprehensive search of articles from the year 2000 to 2021. After filtering through inclusion criteria and full-text assessment, a total of 42 articles were coded and evaluated. While there has been growth in VR and AR welding training research, there is little discussion in their effectiveness for supporting distance learning, and most studies targeted entry-level students. Our main contributions are classifying primary functions in the virtual welding workshops and their adaptation to the psychomotor domain. We hope these results can empower the research community to develop and improve the VR and AR system and evaluation instruments to support vocational training, especially during this pandemic.

Education needs to change working life in order to improve and ensure the latest technology has been adopted to cater the new era of industrial revolution. To reach this, a technological-oriented education is required for students. In this section, Virtual Reality (VR) technology is useful to get empirical experience in tertiary education. Moreover, virtual world provides a hazard-free and explorative learning experience. This paper reviews the application of VR in engineering education. This work also covers the usage of VR application which begins with the history of VR application, reasons of VR in education, key elements for immersive VR collaboration, and types of VR systems. The input / output devices which involved in VR systems were also discussed. This paper also reviews VR systems classification and usage of VR in education systems. VR in design application was finally reviewed followed by the advantages and disadvantages of VR systems and VR hardware. The last section provides future trends and conclusion.

End&uuml;stride bakım onarım, imalat, &uuml;retim planlama ve pazarlama gibi alanlarda arttırılmış (AG), sanal (SG) ve karma ger&ccedil;eklik (XR) teknolojileri kullanılmaktadır. Bu teknolojiler ger&ccedil;ek d&uuml;nya ile dijital d&uuml;nya arasındaki ge&ccedil;işi sağlamaktadır. Bir&ccedil;ok alanda başarı ile kullanılan bu teknolojiler eğitim ve &ouml;ğretim alanlarında da temel matematik eğitiminden ileri m&uuml;hendislik konularına kadar yardımcı ekipman olarak kullanılmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında, end&uuml;stri ve eğitim alanları başta olmak &uuml;zere bir&ccedil;ok alanda uygulama geliştirilen AG ve SG teknolojileri incelenmiş ve y&ouml;ntemlerin kullanıcılara sunduğu faydalar ve teknolojilerin kısıtları araştırılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda ortaya &ccedil;ıkan rapor değerlendirilmiş ve ihtiya&ccedil; olduğu d&uuml;ş&uuml;n&uuml;len sorunlara makul bir &ccedil;&ouml;z&uuml;m geliştirilmiştir. Burada, teknik ve m&uuml;hendislik eğitimlerine y&ouml;nelik hem arttırılmış hem de karma ger&ccedil;eklik y&ouml;ntemlerini tek bir uygulamada sunarak kullanıcıların tek bir uygulama ile her iki tekniğin faydalarından yararlanması ama&ccedil;lanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda hem arttırılmış hem de karma ger&ccedil;eklik tekniğini destekleyen uygulama geliştirilmiş ve uygulamayı kullanmayı sağlayan bir karma ger&ccedil;eklik g&ouml;zl&uuml;ğ&uuml; tasarlanmıştır.
