Vegetation structure and composition of the montane zone of Mount Gede Pangrango National Park

Abstract: The objective of this study was to found on composition and structure of vegetation of upstream Cianjur Watersheds at the montane zone Mt. Gede Pangrango National Park. Research sampling conducted by using plot method placed purposive random sampling at research location with increase elevation equal to 300 m from sea level. Every 300 m elevation level, were taken 10 sample plots so that up to 1600- 2400 (montane zone) totalize plot were 30. Measured parameter cover density, frequency, dominancy, Important Val… Show more

“…The biggest A. excelsa founded in this study reaching 170 cm diameter and laid in C. argentea canopy. A. excelsa is major trees species in the altitude 1,500-1,800 m asl and give the highest contribution to its community (Seifriz 1923;Arrijani 2008). Therefore, Seifriz (1923) was divided the vegetation of Mount Gede into 5 zone, one of which was rasamala (A. excelsa) sub-zone.…”

“…More than 8,000 studies were conducted in this area. Some of them were conducted by famous botanist such as; Reinwardt, Blume, Junghuhn, Treub, Zollinger, Teysmann, Koorders, Backer, Bakhuizen van den Brink Jr., von Faber, van Leeuwen and van Steenis (Meijer 1959;van Steenis 1972;Arrijani 2008).…”

“…The high species richness in this area resulted in high diversity, which in turn making the number of individual trees in this region are fewer than the other two regions Also, the results of this research show that the low evenness value is low due to many species that do not spread evenly and there is a species that is very dominating. If certain species in an area are dominant, while other species are not dominant, or their density is lower than the evenness value, the area will be lower [33]. In two upper Amazonian forests, this condition is due to the increasing number of small trees [34].…”

“…The efficacy of riparian vegetation depends on the structure and composition of vegetation (Arrijani, 2008). The way to know the structure and composition of plants is by conducting vegetation analysis (Naidu & Kumar, 2016).…”
