This study is conducted to characterize some nutritional attributes and starch properties of 156 Turkish sorghum populations and 4 standard cultivars (Sorghum bicolor L.). Crude protein contents of the populations vary between 6.67% and 14.33%, digestible protein ratios between 6.67% and 82.24%, crude oil contents between 2.15% and 6.40%, phytic acid contents between 0.37% and 4.09%, resistant starch between 1.10% and 34.23%, nonresistant starch between 10.79% and 79.61%, total starch between 15.42% and 85.54%, amylose between 5.67% and 43.48%, amylopectin between 9.45% and 65.67%, total phenolic between 0.19% and 5.06 mg GAE/g and antiradical activity between 3.72% and 91.48%. Significant differences are obtained from starch‐based Rapid Visco Analyzer parameters of sorghum genotypes. As compared standard cultivars, several superior genotypes are identified in terms of nutritional characteristics. Genotype treatment (GT) biplot analysis revealed ideal genotypes for investigated parameters. Present findings confirmed that there are many genotypes with superior nutritional properties in local sorghum genotypes.

Nutrient potential and mineral contents of some vegetable cluster bean genotypes

Background and objectives This study was conducted to determine nutritional traits and mineral contents of green pods of ten different vegetable cluster bean genotypes. Findings Except for N, Cu, and crude fiber contents, differences in the other parameters of the genotypes were found to be significant (p < .01). Crude ash contents varied between 5.29%–8.30%, crude oil contents between 0.60%–0.78%, crude fiber contents between 13.96%–16.04%, total phenolics between 1.45–2.16 mg GAE/100 g and antiradical capacities between 14.02%–21.50%. For macronutrients, nitrogen contents varied between 23.01–27.56 g/kg, phosphorus contents between 2.31–2.73 g/kg, potassium contents between 22.59–25.38 g/kg, calcium contents between 6.89–8.91 g/kg, magnesium contents between 5.26–6.38 g/kg and sodium contents between 30.80–60.91 g/kg; for micronutrients, iron contents varied between 88–124 µg/g, copper contents between 5.99–7.47 µg/g, zinc contents between 8.25–16.55 µg/g, manganese contents between 17.68–20.93 µg/g, and boron (B) contents between 24.13–26.78 µg/g. Conclusions The genotype‐by‐trait (GT) biplot method was used for visual assessment of the relationships among the investigated traits and to group the genotypes based on correlations among the studied traits. Investigated traits fell into four groups in the resultant GT biplot. Significance and novelty The nutritional attributes of green pods of vegetable cluster beans were investigated for the first time in the Mediterranean basin (Çanakkale ‐ Turkey), and quite valuable outcomes were achieved. The green pods of vegetable cluster beans had higher values for the majority of investigated minerals than several vegetables. Additionally, 100 g consumption of green pods of cluster beans provided quite high nutrient uptakes for the human body.

This work aimed to study the effect of FYM rates (0, 10 & 20 m 3 fed-1) and application in time of N fertilizer on maize grain yield and its attributes using single cross hybrid 130 at two field experiments. The technique of treatment-trait (TT) biplot graph was used to study the interrelationships among maize traits. The Results showed that application of 10 or 20 m 3 FYM and adding the recommended N fertilizer on these doses with first, second or third irrigations gave highest values for the grain yield and most agronomic traits. It is obvious that the highest correlation coefficients were obtained between grain yield and each of number of ears plot-1 (NE),ear length (EL), ear diameter (ED) and 100 kernel weight (KW),under Gemmeiza location, while the traits of days to 50%tassiling and silking, plant height (PH), ear height (EH), number of ears plot-1 (NE) and 100 kernel weight (KW) were the most associated traits with grain yield under Sids location. Using the TT biplot graph, results revealed that the best performance treatments for most studied across the two locations were the application (T11) before as well as application (T10). The results showed that TT biplot graph was an effective statistical tool to study the effects of treatments on yield and its attributes and also to discover the interrelationships among these traits. Accordingly, the maize breeder should give interest in the interrelationships among grain yield and its attributes when planning the breeding program.
