Validation of Movement Over a Belt Conveyor Drum

Abstract: This paper presents the use of new modern methods for the research of movement of material on a belt conveyor. One of the innovative methods is Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), which was used to scan and assess the two-dimensional vector field of speed of particles on the belt conveyor. Outputs from PIV were compared to simulations of the same transport process. These simulations were performed using the Discrete Element Method (DEM). Four transport speeds of material were assessed for a real and simulative b… Show more

“…Rubber properties largely depend on temperature and time, therefore a classic elasticity module, as in common construction materials such as concrete, steel, etc. [16], loses the meaning of a material constant, and becomes a material function depending mainly on temperature and length of strain. Therefore, mechanical tests are most often performed at normal room temperature (or in isothermal conditions).…”

“…The first group involves works on the measurement and imitation of many phenomena affecting the conveyor belt, e.g., impacts on the transport belt during loading [39][40][41], the mass continuous load on the transport belt [42], the influence of contact forces in the pipe conveyor belt [43,44]. Other simulation tests referred to material transported on the conveyor belt, e.g., in places causing the compaction of the mass being transported [45], the distribution of loose materials on the conveyor belt [46], the design of a feeding channel over the conveyor belt for uniform feeding [47,48]. The other main group of tests connected with transport on conveyor belts refers to the material outlet from the conveyor belt.…”

“…The other main group of tests connected with transport on conveyor belts refers to the material outlet from the conveyor belt. The said studies determined the specifications and trajectories of materials going out from the conveyor belt [49] and compared actual and simulation curves [46,50,51]. Such tests are conducted in order to improve unloading effectiveness [52] and the assessment of the wear and tear condition of the transport system [53].…”
