Computer Aided Modeling of Wood Chips Transport by Means of a Belt Conveyor with Use of Discrete Element Method

Abstract: The effectiveness and precision of transporting wood chips on the transport trailer or hopper depends on an inclination angle, a conveyor belt speed, and length. In order to devise a methodology aiding designing and the selection of technical and performance parameters (aiding the settings of conveyor belt sub-assemblies), the authors carried out the simulation tests concerning wood chips transport on the belt conveyor and their outlet. For the purposes of these tests, a simulation model was performed in the R… Show more

“…The variability of throughput can be caused by the material structure, its moisture content and the adhesive abilities of particles. Wet particles with the adhesive properties will cause problems with the material flow [80][81][82][83], because agglomerates will be created and some material will stick to the discs and walls of the comminution chamber. This makes some part of the material remain in the grinding chamber, and there may also be moments when the residual material peels off, causing abrupt increases in efficiency, which was further described in [41,45,46].…”

“…The tape processing was performed in accordance with the guidelines contained in [ 31 ]. In order to adapt the tape to the test stand, it was shortened and joined with an overlap [ 32 , 33 ] and the elements were joined with a polychloropene adhesive with the designation by CX manufacturer [ 34 , 35 ].…”

“…FEM is used for tests [27], and for tests of joints between the machine elements [28]. DEM is used in simulation of the transport process [29], milling [30], crushing, sieving, and many more processes that use granular material. According to the results of analyses and the literature, the DEM method is an effective tool to be used for simulation of granular materials [31] and is the most suitable for optimization of a piezoelectric sensor chamber.…”
