Objective:To describe nurses' experience in the care of high-risk newborns. Method: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, based on Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology and performed at the Fernando Magalhães Maternity Hospital in the state of Rio de Janeiro, through interviews with 30 nurses who work in neonatal care, according to the phenomenological thinking of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Results: Three categories emerged: "experienced body of the nurse practitioner on the high-risk newborn"; "experienced world of the nurse practitioner on the high-risk newborn"; and "time spent by the nurse practitioner with the high-risk newborn". Final considerations:The study allowed us to describe, through the participants' speeches, that the care of the high-risk newborn is broad, that is, objective, subjective and carried out with advanced technologies, their experiences and scientific improvement are composed of shared practice and theory with the family, professionals and beginners in the neonatal universe, favoring a differentiated and humanized care. RESUMOObjetivo: Descrever a vivência do enfermeiro no cuidado ao recém-nascido de alto risco. Método: Estudo descritivo com abordagem qualitativa, pautado na fenomenologia de Merleau-Ponty e realizado no Hospital Maternidade Fernando Magalhães do estado do Rio de Janeiro, por meio de entrevistas com 30 enfermeiros que atuam no cuidado neonatal, segundo o pensamento fenomenológico de Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Resultados: Emergiram três categorias: "corpo vivido do profissional enfermeiro sobre o recém-nascido de alto risco"; "mundo vivido do profissional enfermeiro sobre o recém-nascido de alto risco"; e "tempo vivido do profissional enfermeiro sobre o recém-nascido de alto risco". Considerações finais: O estudo nos permitiu descrever, através das falas dos participantes, que o cuidado ao recém-nascido de alto risco é amplo, ou seja, objetivo, subjetivo e realizado com tecnologias avançadas, suas vivências e aprimoramento científico composto do teórico prático compartilhado com a família, profissionais e iniciantes no universo neonatal favorecendo um cuidado diferenciado e humanizado. Introdu��o: O M�todo Canguru foi idealizado em 1979 objetivando a alta hospitalar precoce de prematuros. Objetivo: observar a atua��o das atividades do profissional de fisioterapia no M�todo Canguru e a resposta do rec�m-nascido ao m�todo. M�todo: Trata-se de um estudo documental transversal retrospectivo com abordagem quantitativo. Os crit�rios de inclus�o utilizados foram: prontu�rios de rec�m-nascidos do sexo feminino e masculino que participaram do m�todo, e foram exclu�dos do estudo prontu�rios incompletos e/ou rasurados. Resultados: Pode-se observar que a m�dia do peso era de 1,46 kg e ap�s a posi��o canguru ser utilizada houve aumento de 18,49 %, chegando a ter peso no momento da alta de 1,73 kg. O mesmo foi verificado no tamanho dodos rec�m-nascido, observando aumento de 6,09 %. Conclus�o: Observou que o fisioterapeuta tem papel fundamental nos cuidados com o prematuro, nas estabiliza��es das fun��es, minimizando dor e estresse e intervindo nos est�mulos nocivos provenientes do ambiente.

“…We also learned that it is not necessary to be graduated to put 70% alcohol in the umbilical stump, to use safer methods to position the baby (6) , to guarantee exclusive breastfeeding up to six months of age, to nest (methods of positioning the baby) (6) and to use heated water for the bath. In other words, we chose to work with lay people in the community, who trained with necessary information and who cared about each other, people capable of loving each other (love, here, as opposed to indifference) instead of investing in professionals with information, but little committed or indifferent.…”

Caring for the future: decrease in infant mortality in Maranhão State

Objective: To report on the experience and care provided by the "Caring for the future" program to decrease infant mortality in 17 municipalities of Maranhão, in a proposal work of the Secretariat of Basic Care, in partnership with the Non-Governmental Organization called Centro Popular de Cultura e Desenvolvimento (Popular Center for Culture and Development/PCCD) from 2009 to 2015. Method: Experience Report of community care that made it possible to create and strengthen solidary relationships among community members. Results: The program decreased infant mortality rate and created in the supported communities a platform of health support, uniting information and care in Primary Care. The program trained 34 "Guardian Angels" and 170 "Supportive Caregivers", mapped seven thousand "luminous spots" and trained more than 7,000 caregivers in health. It served 17 municipalities, 27,191 pregnant women, 291,266 families. Final considerations: The program was a catalyst for actions: it unveiled hidden resources in the community, awakened collective responsibility, offered training and built solidary relationships.
