Monitoring COVID-19 health indicators allows the organization and implementation of policies to contain the disease. In this regard, the present study aimed to analyze the evolution of these indicators in the State of Paraná. This was a cross-sectional study, analyzing secondary quantitative data from the 22 Health Regions, of epidemiological bulletins from the Health Department of the state of Paraná, between March 2020 and March 2022. The variables Incidence Rate, Mortality Coefficient, and Lethality Coefficient were analyzed using descriptive statistics and presented through tables and thematic maps. The results showed that most of the Health Regions have high Mortality Coefficient and Incidence Rate after two years, especially the ninth Region (based in Foz do Iguaçu), which maintained a high incidence throughout the analyzed period. Lethality, on the other hand, showed a significant decrease within the Health Regions at the end of the period, demonstrating a decrease in the severity of the disease, which can be explained by the influence of the Vaccination Plan on this indicator. In addition, the first (based in Paranaguá) and second (based in Curitiba) health regions showed high indicators of Mortality and Lethality over time. The study highlighted the importance of monitoring health indicators to organize public policies to contain the disease in the State, especially the Vaccination Plan against COVID-19.

PurposeThe authors investigated the effect of basic human values in the prediction of COVID-19 vaccination behavior amongst public security agents in Brazil.Design/methodology/approachA sample of 15,313 Brazilian public security agents responded to the portrait values questionnaire and a COVID vaccination behavior measure. Multidimensional scaling analysis (MDS) was used to observe the order of the predicted by the theory. For hypotheses, the authors ran a series of Structural equation modeling (SEM) with direct effects between values and vaccination rate.FindingsResults suggest that the values of conservation and self-transcendence positively predicted vaccination. A nonsignificative negative prediction was obtained for openness to change and self-enhancement values on vaccination behavior.Research limitations/implicationsData were collected using self-report questionnaires.Practical implicationsInstitutional management should encourage capacitation campaigns aimed at public security agents, enabling a significant increase in vaccine protection for the public security institutions.Social implicationsThe reinforcement of conservation and self-transcendence values lead to the perception of the vaccine as a measure of caring for people in general and for the members of the ingroup, hence motivating the vaccination behavior.Originality/valueThe findings confirm that values encourage individuals to be vaccinated, due to their intrinsic motivation. This relationship did not appear to be clearly tested by previous empirical studies.

Objetivo: Compreender quais foram as estratégias adotadas pelos municípios para atingir a cobertura vacinal de crianças contra COVID-19. Métodos: Estudo de abordagem qualitativa no âmbito de uma pesquisa-intervenção conduzida pelo Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisa em Vacinação da Escola de Enfermagem da UFMG, em colaboração com a Secretaria de Estado de Saúde de Minas Gerais. Participaram do estudo 212 municípios com tendência decrescente nas taxas de cobertura vacinal em crianças menores de 2 anos. Foram realizadas 8 oficinas para a elaboração do plano de ação de combate às baixas taxas de cobertura vacinal. As oficinas foram registradas em áudio e transcritas, sendo esse material analisado em três etapas. Resultados: A análise de conteúdo das oficinas evidenciou três categorias: "Ações intersetoriais utilizadas pelos municípios como estratégia para atingir a cobertura da vacinação de COVID-19 no público infantil"; "Ações de educação permanente para equipe de saúde" e "Reorganização de processos de trabalho nas salas de vacina". Na primeira, ações coordenadas com a assistência social, a educação, os espaços de debate político e outros agentes foram descritas. Na segunda categoria, foram citadas ações de educação permanente tanto com a equipe de enfermagem que atua na sala de vacina quanto com profissionais que realizam atendimento de crianças e adolescentes. Na última categoria, as dificuldades do trabalho nas salas de vacinação foram evidenciadas, explicitando a necessidade de reorganizar e otimizar o trabalho nesse local. Conclusão: A vacinação contra COVID-19 em crianças tem sido um grande desafio para os gestores, coordenadores de vigilância epidemiológica, enfermeiros e técnicos de enfermagem na sala de vacina. Mesmo diante dos esforços das equipes de saúde, não foi possível alcançar a meta de cobertura vacinal, o que mostra a complexidade do cenário vacinal e a necessidade de unir forças de diversos setores para aumentar a cobertura vacinal infantil.
