Radioactivity from [3-14C]tyrosine and from [methyl-14C]methionine is incorporated nonrandomly into predicted positions of corydaline and ochotensimine in Corydalissolida and C. ochotensis, respectively. The methyl group of methionine supplies the C-methyl group of corydaline and the exocyclic methylene group of ochotensimine, as well as the "bridge" carbon atom and the exocyclic O- and N-attached one-carbon units of each alkaloid. Maintenance of the 3H/14C ratio of [methyl-3H,14C]methionine within these units of corydaline is consistent with incorporation of intact CH3 groups.Partial loss of 3H relative to 14C is observed in the course of a Schmidt reaction of [2-3H, 2-14C] acetate.

Adsorption and reduction of berberine are investigated by alternating current polarography and square-wave voltammetry in electrolytes of various pH. Both berberine and the product of its reduction canadine form condensed ®lms on the mercury electrode surface. These processes limit the analytical application of square-wave voltammetry combined with adsorptive accumulation of berberine. Reduction of berberine is totally irreversible and occurs between À0.95 V and À1.35 V, depending on berberine concentration and pH of solution. Canadine is electroinactive and can not be reoxidized on mercury electrode. Its condensed ®lm is very stable, even at À0.5 V, and may prevent adsorption of berberine. The properties of square-wave voltammetric responses of berberine in acidic, neutral and basic electrolytes are reported and the conditions for their electroanalytical application are discussed.

Da das Einleiten von HCI-Gas nur eine Stunde dauerte unrl clas Gas vollstindig liiftfrei war und von der unteren Wassernchicht volllrommen absorbiert mnrrle, kann man sicher sein, cia13 der iriiiglichc Fehler geringer sein wird, als 1 mg entspricht. Nachdcm ca. 3,7 g eingeleitet waren, wurtle die Gemichtszunahmrt auf der analytischen Wage festgcstellt und auf das errechnete Volumen mit Wasser von 15" auigefullt. Die erhaltene Losung wird zum mindcuten auf 0,03% genau sein. 60 ccni dieser Liisang wurden mit 1 Tropfen Methylrot (0,l yo) angefarbt und mit I/,()-N -Boraxlosung titriert. Der'LTinschlag mar ausgezeichnct, und PS wurdcn 5@,01, 50,03, 50,03 ccni Boraxlosun6 verbraucht. Der Fehlcr ist also O , O O~o , was fur die Praxis bci w e i h n geniigcn cliirfte.Bei der Enipfehlung der l,',,,-h'.-BorasIosnng als acidimetridie Losung clachte ich in crster Linie an dic VcrhJtnisse des Apothekenlaboratoriums. Was in vielen Fbllen von clen niallanalytischen Bestimmungen abhiilt, ist der Zweifcl, ob die vorhanclene Liisung stininit; und eine EinstellunG erfordert, wenn sic an sich auch nicht zii schwierig ist, immerhin einigr Zeit. Zeit ist abcr Gclcl. und bci tlcn heutigcn Verhdltnisscn gilt clas in vcrstarktcm JIaRe.
