Citation rates can be used as an indicator of the influence and relevance of scientific papers. The present study analyzed the 100 most-cited articles related to erosive tooth wear (ETW). The top 100 most-cited papers focusing on ETW topics were collected from the Web of Science database on November 11th, 2020. The following bibliometric data were extracted from papers: title, authorship, institutions, countries, number of citations, year of publication, journal title, study design, topic, and keywords. Scopus and Google Scholar were searched to compare the number of citations. The VOSviewer software was used to generate collaborative network maps for the authors and keywords. The number of citations of the 100 most-cited papers ranged from 71 to 330 (average: 97.44). The papers were published between 1949 and 2015. Caries Research (28%) and The Journal of Dentistry (16%) presented the majority of papers. Laboratorial (44%) and observational studies (33%) were the most common study designs. The most studied topics were epidemiology (31%) and the erosive potential of substances [drinks, foods, or medicines] (22%). The countries with the highest number of most-cited papers were England (32%), Germany (18%), and Switzerland (10%). The University of Bern was the institution with the most papers (10%). Lussi A was the author with the highest number of papers in the top 100 (14%). The most common keyword was “dental erosion” with 64 occurrences. The top 100 most-cited papers related to ETW were composed mainly of laboratorial and observational studies focusing on epidemiology and the erosive potential of substances.

Celebrating the centenary of calcium hydroxide (CH), the aim of this study was to analyze the 100 most-cited papers on this biomaterial. The bibliometric analysis was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoS-CC) database. Title, authorship information, study design, year, journal, number of citations, CH use, and fields of Dentistry were extracted. The number of citations in the WoS-CC, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases was cross-matched with the Spearman correlation. From the 1,596 papers identified, a list was compiled with the 100 most-cited papers. The number of citations in WoS-CC ranged from 78 to 384 (mean: 131.4). The main CH uses were: intracanal dressing (61%), and pulp protection (29%). The fields of Dentistry with most studies on CH were Endodontics (62%) and Operative Dentistry (30%). The most frequent study design was laboratory studies (44%). Three hundred and thirty-five authors from 29 countries were identified. The United States of America (USA) was the leading country with 23 articles. Dag Ørstavik was the author with the most papers and citations (9 papers; 1,118 citations). Most papers were published between 1991 and 2015 and in the Journal of Endodontics (38%). A very strong positive correlation was observed among the number of citations in the databases. The 100 most-cited papers were published mainly by European journals or from USA, with laboratory and multifaceted interventional designs. The present study celebrated the centenary of CH, highlighting the role and importance of this biomaterial in Dentistry.

This study aimed to present a bibliometric analysis about the central topic bruxism and disabled people in a global panorama through PubMed database (1965-2021). It was included in this study only journal publications in English. Letters to editor, short communication, articles irrelative to people with disabilities and bruxism or articles with unavailable abstract or full text were not included. The initial search was performed by three independent investigators who assessed the title, abstract and main text to determine the included or excluded articles. It was observed that the tendency of publications was rising, with an average of 1.9 per year. There were 27 countries that have contributed to publications on the studied field and the most productive ones are United States (28.2%) and Brazil (20.0%). The most productive authors in the field are Brazilian and among the most productive institutions, 4 are Brazilian and 3 are North American. Case reports were the most frequent type of article (28.1%), followed by cross-sectional studies (24.5%) and literature reviews (12.7%). The most productive journal in the studied field were Special Care in Dentistry (12.7%), followed by Journal of Oral Rehabilitation (3.6%). Brazil has a great scientific contribution to the field with a relevant number of publications, leading authors and institutions. There is a lack of high-quality evidence involving the main topic, reinforcing that further interventional studies and controlled trials must be conducted.
