The Students’ Mathematical Abstraction Ability Through Realistic Mathematics Education With Vba-Microsoft Excel

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to analyze the level of abstraction mathematical ability of the students through learning using Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) with Visual Basic Application (VBA) for Microsoft Excel. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method and the subject of this study is junior high school students of grade 9th in one school in Ngamprah as many as 35 students. One of the instruments in this study is the abstraction test. Results show that as many as 65.71% of students are in… Show more

“…The interactive learning model emphasises student questions as to its characteristic, in the interactive learning model questions will often appear, and the questions may vary. Meanwhile, Visual Basic Application for Microsoft Excel is a programming language feature that can process data automatically by utilising mathematical functions using Visual Basic code assistance (Chotimah et al, 2018;Fitriani et al, 2018;Rohaeti et al, 2019).…”

“…One of the contextual learning in mathematics learning that is often applied is Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). The Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach that takes into account the local conditions (culture, environment, or context) shows that students are no longer afraid to express their ideas, dare to provide different problem solving with their peers, and grow their creativity in solving a problem collaboratively (Fernandes, Farida, Fitria, Fauzan, & Nelvyarni, 2018;Fitriani, Suryadi, & Darhim, 2018;Susanti & Rustam, 2018). The determinants of mathematics learning outcomes are analogical skills and attitude or affective factors.…”

“…These two techniques have drawn attention to the development of abstraction thinking in geometry. Fitriani et al (2018a) have detailed several possible ways of bringing up abstractions, two of which are directing students to recognize commonalities across contexts and condition students so that they feel the same way to form universal concepts. We have presented students in Question 2 an opportunity to abstract the geometry properties in the process of constructing a cube and prism model to touch their awareness of the intersection of the conceptual aspect from the two solid.…”
