The evolution of mathematics coincided with advancements in its teaching. The 19<sup>th</sup> and 20<sup>th</sup> centuries marked a pedagogical revolution in mathematics education. This paper argues that Bruner’s (1966) model, Gagné’s (1985) taxonomy, innovative teaching methods emphasizing research and problem-solving, and the inclusion of data analysis topics have shaped modern mathematics education. Additionally, the paper explores transformative trends, emphasizing mathematics literacy and the integration of virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) in education. This evolution emphasizes practical, contextually relevant approaches. The research aims to compare the advanced class (experimental class) and traditional class with the traditional teaching method. This research is concerned with STEM activity in parachute design. The experiment class applies research-based learning methods integrated with Cloud Classroom (CCR), and the Traditional class is taught using conventional teacher talk or exp lanation. This research used triangulation methods , quantitative, and qualitative methods. The data analysis of the post-test indicated a value of sig (2-tailed) 0.00 where p≤0.05, wh ich implied the student achievement on combinatorial thinking skills criteria in the experimental class was better than that in the control class. The combinatorial thinking skills in experimental class after imp lementation of RBL was that 16% student were categorized in a low level of combinatorial thinking skills, 39% in med iu m level and 45% of the student was at the high level of comb inatorial thinking skills. The activity of students in the experimental class reached 35 % as the highest activity for very active activity, 27 % active, hesitate 27 %, inactive 6 %, and very inactive 5 %. Based on this result, the imp lementation of research-based learning integrated with CCR is proven effective in imp roving student Comb inatorial Thinking skills in STEM activity for parachute design.

The study aims to investigate the analysis of student metacognition skill in solving the rainbow connection problem under the implementation of the research-based learning model. The method used in this study is a mixed method. The research subjects were the 4th semester of students of higher education consisting of 30 students of experimental class and 45 students of the control class. The instruments of this research are a test, an observation, and an interview. Quantitative method is applied to analyze the difference of student achievement result among two classes, while the qualitative method is applied to analysis the students' metacognitive skills. The results show that there are significant differences between the two classes that applied research-based learning and conventional learning models. The conventional model refers to student-centered learning of Think-Pair-Shares (TPS) model. The statistical result indicates that the (2-tailed) significance of the independent sample t-test in the pre-test was 0.000 or α ≤ 0.05. It implies that the implementation of RBL significantly affects the students' metacognition skill in solving the rainbow connection problem.
