The impact of relief on the distribution of the population in the area of East Sarajevo

Abstract: Bosnia and Herzegovina, and therefore the City of East Sarajevo have in recent decades have a major impact on the distribution of the settlement. The subject of this paper will be geographical and habitation specifics of East Sarajevo, vertical zones and distribution of the population. The aim of this paper is to determine whether and how the relief affects the distribution of the population in the researched area and how population depends on the morphometric parameters. Also, we want to determine how the pop… Show more

“…The study area is located in the central-eastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Figure 1), covers an area of 492 km 2 and has about 20,359 inhabitants (Lukić Tanović et al, 2019). The concentration of the population is due to the vertical structure of the relief, and usually the concentration of the population decreases with increasing altitude (Lukić Tanović et al, 2014). This area belongs to the macroregion of the Dinaric morphological system, the Inner Dinarides zone.…”

“…Locational Disadvantage: rural shrinkage is also often associated with "negative" locational characteristics, which are perceived as hampering pathways to economic growth. These are often associated with a poor resource endowment (Nikitović, 2016, Tanović et al, 2014, isolation (Kukovič, 2018), sparsity and proximity to borders (Bański and Flaga, 2013;Darques, 2004).…”

“…Through previous research (Lukić Tanović, Golijanin, & Grmuša, 2014), the authors studied the impact of the morphometric features of the terrain on the distribution of the population of the City. Therefore, this paper represents a continuation of the research with a review of the hypsometric zoning and distribution of the population (applying the final results of the 2013 Census, which were not available at the time of the earlier research).…”
