The Difference of Effectivity Between Mangosteen Peel Extract and Metronidazole on Fibroblast Proliferation

Abstract: Background:The disease of the oral cavity is quite common in the society is periodontitis. The main cause of this condition is a certain bacterial infection found in dental plaque. In general, metronidazole gel will be given as additional therapy to treat bacterial colonization. Mangosteen peel extract gel contains xanthones and flavonoids which are known to be antibacterial and antiinflammatory. This research aims to specify the differences in the effectiveness of anti-inflammatory between mangosteen peel ext… Show more

“…This shows that administration of metronidazole gel can increase the number of fibroblasts, metronidazole gel eliminates P. gingivalis by interfering with DNA synthesis and bacterial cell nuclei to prevent colonization or further infection. Thus, inflammation can occur in a short time and be followed by tissue regeneration, one of which is the process of fibroblast proliferation (Atiqah et al, 2021;Cialdai et al, 2022).…”

“… 33 By promoting collagen synthesis, reducing macrophages and tissue edema, and boosting fibroblast production, flavonoids promote wound healing. 28 During the proliferative phase, fibroblast cells gradually form on the surface of the wound and generate fresh collagen fibers. A new collagen fiber will be formed to replace any damaged fibers of collagen that have an uneven shape.…”

“…The role of metronidazole can inhibit bacterial DNA replication and cause bacterial death. Bacterial death can prevent excess bacterial colonization so that a more severe infection does not occur so that the inflammatory phase occurs in a shorter time [25].…”
