The Association between 10-Year Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Score Calculated Using 2013 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guidelines and Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Level among Aged 40–79 Years in Korea: The Sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys

Abstract: BackgroundWe examined the relationship between 10-year predicted atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk score and 25-hydroxyvitamin D in Koreans aged 40–79 years.MethodsA population-based, cross-sectional design was used from data based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2014.ResultsA total of 1,134 healthy Koreans aged 40–79 years were included. A positive relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D level and ASCVD score was shown in women (β=0.015) after adjusting f… Show more

“…In addition, an appropriate model for Asians has not been developed. Thus in many Asian countries, including South Korea, a 10-yr ASCVD risk assessment model has been used [37,38,39,40,41,42,43]. Finally, because the pooling cohort ASCVD equation is only applicable to individuals aged 40–79 years, this study could not assess the CVD risk for other age groups.…”

“…Various studies based on Asian populations have obtained significant results by using the 10-year ASCVD risk score as the reference for atherosclerosis evaluation. 19,23,34 Second, because the medical record at the point of surgery was analyzed retrospectively, changes in the administrative status of statins after surgery were not evaluated. Yet, changes in lipid levels are observed at 4 to 12 weeks after modification of statin administration status, 16 and tendon-to-bone healing after rotator cuff repair occurs within 12 weeks postoperatively.…”

“…However, the effects of vitamin D as a supplement are still controversial. One study demonstrated that a high serum vitamin D concentration is associated with high atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease risk scores [82].…”
