The fast changing nature of the educational environment and the subsequent increase in the volumes of generated learner data, have found existing data analysis techniques lacking in certain fields. These techniques form part of the analysis and reporting phases of learning analytics and need to adapt to accommodate the changing face of education. In this paper, a set of interrelated algorithmic solutions that utilise mathematical programming models to generate and provide learning feedback in the form of academic performance status reports, is presented. Three existing mathematical models, more specifically the benchMark program, an outputs-only data envelopment analysis and a traditional analytic hierarchy process were evaluated for providing the information required to assist students in improving their academic achievement. The requirements include providing students with their current academic performance status, setting interim improvement goals and calculating improvement targets towards reaching those goals. The evaluated models did not address the requirements satisfactorily. The solution proposed in this paper consists of an algorithm that implements a linear programming model to generate performance status reports based on the current assessment scores of a group of students in a module. The output is used in a second algorithm that utilises the remaining improvement opportunities available to generate a participation future time perspective. The resulting schedule together with each individual student's current assessment scores, is used to calculate discrete improvement goals for each student as well as targets towards reaching those goals. A third algorithm provides a lecturer with some insight into the mastering of module content.

Opinions were sought from a panel of two groups of Malaysian experts, i.e., the urban planners and the Maqasid al-Shariah scholars with the aim of developing an evaluation model via identifying and ranking the Maqasid indicators and subindicators for liveability and quality of life in cities. The measurement utilizes the Dharuriyyat (essentials or necessities) dimension of the Maqasid al-Shariah principles based on Al-Shatibi's School of maslahah which targets public interests and benefits of living in cities. This is supported by Ibn Ashur and contemporarily by Yusuf al-Qaradhawi who emphasize harmony, justice and global peace. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) has been used as the main method to prioritize the indicators and sub-indicators. The AHP results indicate that religion, life, intellect, lineage and wealth are in descending order of importance, similar to the priorities of the classic Maqasid al-Shariah doctrine. However, the sub-indicators are ranked in terms of priorities based on the consensus of the urban planners and maqasid practitioners which ultimately form the Islamic liveability measurement for cities.

Currently, there has been limited established specific set of criteria for personnel promotion to each level of the organization particularly among retail industries. This study is conducted in order to develop a personnel promotion strategy by identifying specific sets of criteria for each level of the organization. The complexity of identifying the criteria set along with the subjectivity of these criteria require the use of multi-criteria decision-making approach particularly the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Results show that for first line management, the specific criteria set are: trustworthiness, job involvement, creative and innovative skills, younger generation, and family of businesses. For the middle management, the specific criteria set are: job involvement, creative and innovative skills, trustworthiness, family of business, and education credentialing. And for the top management, the specific criteria set are: strategic and organizational skills, organizational commitment, creative and innovative skills, content specific knowledge and skills, and strategic entrepreneurial connections. These intend also to help avoid mismatch of employee skills and competencies and their job, and at the same time eliminate the issues in personnel promotion such as favoritism, glass ceiling, and gender and physical attractiveness preference. The contribution of this work is in identifying relevant criteria in developing a personnel promotion strategy across organizational levels.
