Latin American decolonial scholarship highlights the importance of time, space, and relationship variables in theoretical frameworks, notably different from white-settler philosophical underpinnings that rely on objectivity and modernity. Understanding race and gender in these frameworks has been elusive. I expand urban planning's decolonial project to earnestly engage with race and gender through expanding dialogue with Black feminist geography scholarship. I document the intense and ongoing process of Black/Native erasure and anti-Blackness/Nativeness in Mexico. I claim that if planning practitioners understood the way that white praise and the idea of mestizo travel with Mexican communities in the U.S. along with the afterlife of colonialism, slavery, and genocide, they could link narratives of Black and Native Mexican epistemologies. Planners would be able to more effectively plan with these communities to eliminate exploitative policies and practices and bring planning theory, pedagogy, and practice closer to their decolonial, feminist, and anti-racist aspirations.

El artículo se enfoca en la práctica del espiritismo cruzao de origen cubano en la ciudad de Cali (Colombia) y el lugar de las misas espirituales que son las ceremonias por excelencia dentro de este sistema de referencia. Específicamente, en las llamadas misas de investigación que buscan determinar el cordón espiritual de la persona, esto es, el conjunto de espíritus que se piensa la acompañan desde su nacimiento. El argumento apunta a señalar la relevancia de los muertos y el mundo espiritual, en la reintroducción de los órdenes clasificatorios de los sujetos que itineran dentro de este sistema religioso, el cual a su vez se articula con otros sistemas religiosos como la santería y el palo monte. Adicionalmente, se muestra la incidencia de los espíritus en la cotidianidad, en la reconformación y el entendimiento del ser persona de los practicantes. El análisis del espiritismo y las misas espirituales se origina en el trabajo de campo realizado en la ciudad de Cali entre 2012 y 2015, a través de la etnografía y las narrativas se recrean y analiza la dinámica de estas prácticas religiosas en su proceso de diáspora dentro del contexto nacional.Palabras claves: espiritismo cruzao, misas espirituales, cordón espiritual, personeidad, Cali. This paper focuses on the Afro-Cuban religious practice of Espiritismo Cruzao in Cali (Colombia), and on the ceremonies called spiritual masses. Although there are different types of spiritual masses, this work will only discuss the misa de investigación (mass of inquiry). This is a ceremony performed by an espiritista (medium), and it aims to determine the spiritual cord of the person.
