Synthesis and Application of the Transition Metal Complexes of α-Pyridinyl Alcohols, α-Bipyridinyl Alcohols, α,α’-Pyridinyl Diols and α,α’-Bipyridinyl Diols in Homogeneous Catalysis

Abstract: The paper presents a comprehensive survey on the synthetic procedures of transition metal complexes of α-pyridinyl alcoholato, α-bipyridinyl alcoholato, α,α’-pyridinyl dialcoholato and α,α’-bipyridinyl dialcoholato ligands and their coordination chemistry. Greater emphasis is, however, given to the catalytic activity of the complexes in homogeneous and asymmetric chemical reactions. The multidentate character of the pyridinyl alcohols and/or bipyridinyl diols is of great importance in the complexation with a l… Show more

“…53 Epoxides are important functional intermediates playing a crucial role in pharmaceuticals, pesticides, cosmetics, and materials production. 54 However, the selective oxidation of alkenes requires complexes based on homogeneous [55][56][57] or heterogeneous [58][59][60][61] catalysts. Almost all of these catalysts have been used in the presence of nonenvironmentally friendly oxidizing agents such as NaClO, 62 PhIO, 63 dioxiranes, 64 tert-butylhydroperoxide, 65 or potassium peroxomonosulfate.…”

“…The design concept C is of interest because of the potential hemilabile nature and latent metathesis activity of these complexes [4]. Of particular interest to us are the ruthenium alkylidene complexes containing the pyridinyl alcoholato bidentate ligands investigated by a number of research groups [5].…”
