Studies on Three-Dimensional (3D) Modeling of UAV Oblique Imagery with the Aid of Loop-Shooting

Abstract: Oblique imagery obtained from an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has been widely applied to large-scale three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction; however, the problems of partially missing model details caused by such factors as occlusion, distortion, and airflow, are still not well resolved. In this paper, a loop-shooting-aided technology is used to solve the problem of details loss in the 3D model. The use of loop-shooting technology can effectively compensate for losses caused by occlusion, distortion, or airflo… Show more

“…[6] presented a tool to 3D model of building by combining the Google earth and GIS environment to visualization 3D model for making decision in elevation they applied this tool on Batom city in Indonesia. [7] proposed to use the Aid of loops shooting technology to process the lack in 3D model which delivered from (UAV) that caused by distortion and airflow and they enhanced the accuracy of 3D reconstruction by using the proposed method. 3D reconstruction was examined by Boboc et al [8] to compare models delivered from two different softwares: Tango construction and Agi photoscan software, The results from their examination showed that the data delivered from Tango application provided morphometric data marked by time saving and quickly way to obtain 3D model reconstruction compared with other methods.…”

“…(3)(4)(5)(6) In addition, the results of 3D model construction based on the use of multi-directional images whose resolution exceeds that of aerial images were examined. (7,8) A method for modeling multiple buildings in a large area using UAV imagery with a relatively narrow shooting range was established. (9) Furthermore, following the increasing demand for high-quality 3D building models, a technique to determine factors that lead to the loss of details such as occlusion and distortion has been developed.…”

(7) Despite extensive research, UAV imagery has limited usefulness for the construction of 3D building models. UAVs use small sensors whose accuracy is lower than that of aircraft, resulting in the acquisition of images with low positional and attitudinal accuracy.…”

“…Smith et al (2009) [16] used kite aerial photogrammetry with small topographic map. In the last time unmanned aerial vehicle (UAVs) present a practical challenge, Li et al (2018) [17] enhanced the 3D reconstruction delivered from UAV by using a loop-shooting aided technology. This technology redounded to process the missing details in 3D model which caused by airflow or distribution during capture the image by UAV.…”
