Studies on the Antibacterial and Anticorrosive Properties of Synthesized Hybrid Polyurethane Composites From Castor Seed Oil

Abstract: Castor seed oil (Ricinus communis) is a prominent feed stock towards the generation of renewable materials for industrial production. The reach presence of ricinoleic fatty acid at 87.5% provides pendant hydroxyl functional groups, which is an essential site for chemical formulations. This paper presents the synthesis, characterization, and evaluations on antibacterial and anticorrosive activities of synthesized hybrid composites from Ricinus communis seed oil. “…C-N-C stretching vibration of imide ring is also observed as bands around 1,350 cm -1 and the band CH3 group showed a symmetric stretching around 2866 cm -1 . Further, the C-O-C bond (alkoxy) shows a strong absorption band 44,45 at 1,030 cm -1 . The appearance of new absorption peaks at 2953 cm -1 (C-H stretching) and 1457 cm -1 (C-H bending) also specified the formation of bismaleimide ring 41 .…”

“…They not only maintain the thermomechanical properties but also reduce the rigidness by increasing the film elasticity which, in turn, expanding the application of starch-based plastic films. Some common plasticizers that employed to increase the elasticity of starch-based films include glycerol, sorbitol, polyol, and essential oils [14][15][16][17][18][19] . However, to date, there is no publication concerning the use of taro starch and chitosan plasticized by castor oil.…”
