Summary This paper presents theoretical studies on load‐bearing capacity of reinforced concrete flat‐plate framed structures. The existing methods for determining load‐bearing capacity of simply supported slabs are first reviewed, and their limitations are presented. An energy‐based refined method is then proposed to enhance the accuracy of the existing methods by considering the contributions to internal energy dissipation due to the extension of reinforcing bars along yield lines, the additional resultant bending moment from membrane forces, and the sectional bending moment along yield lines of slabs. The refined method for simply supported slabs is extended for fixed supported slabs, and thus, the load‐bearing capacity of reinforced concrete flat‐plate structures subject to a middle column loss is analytically determined. The performance of the proposed method is validated against test results and also verified against finite element analyses. Parametric studies are conducted to investigate the effect of reinforcement ratio, slab thickness and aspect ratio on the stiffness, and yield‐line resistance of structures. It is found that for the fixed supported slabs, it is reasonable to assume negative yield lines along the slab edges to consider the effect of obvious concrete crushing along the edge. Square slabs have higher ultimate loads than rectangular slabs, due to a longer horizontal yield line in the middle in the rectangular slab, which has detrimental effect on the sectional ultimate bending moment. The numerical results show that the reinforcement ratio has little effect on the initial bending stiffness and yield‐line resistance of slabs for a given slab thickness and aspect ratio. The initial stiffness and yield‐line resistance increase as the slab thickness increases. For the same reinforcement ratio and slab thickness, a larger aspect ratio leads to a lower initial bending stiffness, yield‐line resistance, and stiffness in tensile membrane action stage, due to a longer yield line along which tensile membrane forces have a detrimental effect on the sectional bending moment.

Thirteen simply supported steel beams were tested to explain the effect of strengthening by external prestressing strands. All of these beams have the same steel section, clear span length and strengthening by two external prestressing strands. The tested beams are divided into two categories according to existing of external prestressing strands, the first category consists of one steel beam as a reference, while, the second group deals with steel beams strengthening by external prestressing strands are divided into two groups according to jacking stress. Each group consists of six steel beams divided according to the eccentricity location of prestressing strand ranging from (0 to 165) mm at jacking stress1120.061 MPa and 814.589 MPa respectively. During the teste, it was found that the load deflection curves behavior for the beams strengthening by external prestressing strand are stiffer than the reference beams and the percentage of stiffening is slightly increase with increasing the jacking stress at constant eccentricity. Also, the maximum applied load with increase slightly rising as eccentricity increased at mid span. On the other hand the increasing percentage in maximum deflection decreases when the jacking stress increase from (814.589 to 1120.061) MPa at constant eccentricity locations.

Abstrak-Setiap kapal yang akan dibangun harus memenuhi standart (rules) yang telah ditetapkan oleh masing-masing biro klasifikasi. Salah satu prinsip dalam merancang suatu konstruksi adalah menciptakan jenis konstruksi yang sesuai dengan standar regulasi. Dalam pembangunan sebuah kapal, tidak akan terlepas dari pemakaian penegar. Dengan nilai modulus yang sama, jenis penegar yang dapat digunakan bisa berupa L-profile, I-profile, ataupun bulb plate. Penentuan jenis profil penegar pada pelat berdasarkan regulasi klasifikasi tidak ditentukan secara pasti, asalkan modulusnya memenuhi batas yang diijinkan, maka konstruksi tersebut disetujui oleh klasifikasi. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini dibuat untuk mengetahui profil mana yang paling efektif digunakan sebagai penegar pelat ditinjau dari besarnya tegangan yang terjadi dan berat konstruksinya. Variasi penegar yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah bulb plate, uequal leg angles, dan equal leg angles. Setiap variasi penegar ditentukan berdasarkan nilai modulus yang sama. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan metode elemen hingga dengan studi kasus konstruksi pelat berpenegar wing tank kapal tanker 17500 LTDW. Pemodelan dilakukan dengan software FEM. Hasil yang didapatkan berupa nilai tegangan von mises, deformasi, dan berat konstruksi pada setiap variasi. Dari hasil analisis, maka didapatkan besar tegangan maksimum pada bulb plate yaitu 49,5 MPa dengan berat konstruksi 39,323 ton, besar tegangan maksimum pada unequal leg angles yaitu 55 MPa dengan berat konstruksi 41,003 ton, dan besar tegangan equal leg angles yaitu 51,5 MPa dengan berat konstruksi 42,625 ton. Maka dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa bulb plate merupakan profil yang paling efektif dengan tegangan kecil dan berat konstruksi kecil. Hasil dari penelitian ini dapat diaplikasikan pada dunia industri sebagai acuan dalam memilih profil penegar yang paling efektif.
