Spectrophotometric Analysis of Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide

Abstract: Two new methods for the simultaneous determination of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide in pharmaceutical dosage forms have been developed. The first method, based on compensation technique is presented for the derivative spectrophotometric determination of binary mixtures with overlapping spectra. By using ratios of the derivative maxima or the derivative minimum, the exact compensation of either component in the mixture can be achieved, followed by its determination. The second method, differential derivativ… Show more

“…In recent years, the literature has been showing an increase in the methods based on the derivative spectrophotometry. It allows enhancement of the resolution of overlapping spectra and selective discrimination of sharp bands over broad bands, thereby offering effective approaches to analysis of drug association and impurities (Erk and Gönüllü 2002;Malliou, Antoniou, and Koundourellis 2002;Erk 2002;Aboul-Eneim, Goger, and Turkalp 2002;Uslu and Ozkan 2002;Joseph-Charles et al 2003;Biryol and Erk 2003).…”

“…There are some methods for simultaneous estimation of both drugs using HPTLC [8,9] and ion pair chromatography [10]. Some UV spectroscopic techniques are also reported in which simultaneous method, AUC method, and first derivative method were developed [11][12][13][14][15][16]. Simultaneous estimation of drug combination is generally done by separation using chromatographic methods like HPLC, GC and HPTLC, and so forth.…”
