Sociodemographic and health factors associated with mortality in community-dwelling elderly

Abstract: OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to identify factors associated with mortality, with emphasis on gender and age differences.METHODS This is a cross-sectional study, which uses data from the FIBRA-2008-2009 network in Campinas, State of São Paulo, Brazil, with information on non-institutionalized residents of the urban area and the Mortality Information System. The dependent variable has been death, in 2013. The associations have been tested by odds ratio (OR) and their 95% confidence intervals, and the… Show more

“…15 It has been proposed that sarcopenic obesity in older adults could have a synergic effect on each other, and would be associated with worse functional disability, 1,11 higher cardiovascular and metabolic syndrome risks. 14 However, results regarding older adults' mortality and the presence of sarcopenic/dynapenic obesity are not always homogeneous, 1,10,12,16 probably because many risk factors should be considered, 17 such as the presence of chronic diseases (CD), that plays an important role in inflammatory response, oxidative stress and metabolic pathways. 13,14,18 Therefore, the objective of the present study was to verify the associations of dynapenia and central obesity with mortality considering the presence of CD among participants of the Frailty in Brazilian Older People (FIBRA) study.…”

“…Therefore, because it is an event of multifactorial cause of high therapeutic complexity, with serious consequences and of difficult prevention, fall requires scientific investigations with different approaches. In addition, impairments in the independence of the elderly may play an important role in the multicausal interaction of falls and may represent an independent risk factor for mortality (10) .…”

“…A alta prevalência das doenças crônicas e a presença de múltiplas morbidades nesta população são decorrentes dos efeitos acumulados às exposições a estressores durante os ciclos da vida. Conhecer quais são as morbidades reforça a estratégia de orientar as ações e estratégias em saúde para os idosos (BORIM et al, 2017).…”
