Single hair analysis: Validation of a screening method for over 150 analytes and application on documented single‐dose cases

Abstract: Hair is the matrix of choice in forensic toxicology when retrospective analysis is needed. Nonetheless, due to misalignment, different growth stages and segmentation lengths of 0.5-1 cm, resolution of time is limited. By segmental analysis of single hairs, most of these factors can be compensated and resolution of time is enhanced.

“…LA-ICP-MS technology was used to investigate the longitudinal distribution of arsenic in a single hair in situ , and a mathematical model was established to predict arsenic entry time based on the retention position of arsenic in the hair and the growth rate of the hair [ 49 ] ( Figure 4 ).
