This study presents the trends of channel flow against human interventions and proposes an adaptation plan through a public-private Partnership (PPP) model to overcome the existing deteriorating condition of the Halda River. Being the only natural carp breeding ground in Bangladesh, the Halda River is significant for the national economy. However, the river's destiny is now stricken with infrastructural obstructions, industrial and residual usage exploits, and shortsighted interventions, whereas the impacts of climate change are likely to worsen the scenarios with high salinity intrusion. The unplanned human interventions due to agricultural purposes are continuously obstructing the river flow and demolishing the carp habitats and spawning within the Halda River extremely. Most of the river bends are potential carp breeding grounds along the river stretch, and the low river flow during pre-monsoon is also impacting the sustainability of the aquatic ecosystem. To understand the issues behind the endangering Halda River, this study conducted a sustainability analysis through the river planform, stage trend, and frequency analyses. The planform analysis showed the encroachment of the river impacting the river bends, significant for aquaculture over the last three decades, whereas the stage trends showed the low availability water scenario in these four locations of the river stretch. Besides, the frequency analysis reviewed the threshold minimum flow for the survival of the aquatic habitat, showing that the flow during the pre-monsoon is unsuitable and unacceptable for the survival of the fish habitats using Gumbel distribution. Conservation of the Halda River is a national priority due to its unique ecological and commercial importance, and it is expected that the proposed PPP framework will ensure the long-term sustainability of the river ecosystem. This article is analysing the existing situation of the Halda River and proposing a joint effort from government and private organisation through the PPP model for sustainable ecosystem management as well as the economic benefits of the country. Working together, each of the stakeholders will find direct benefits and can be instrumental for the survival of the Halda River.

The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of land-use and climate change on the volume of runoff produced and its impact on water resources. It is clear that the more accurate the assessment of runoff in the future, the better the evaluation of the impact of land-use and climate changes on water resources. Thus, to more accurately predict water sources in the future, runoff is estimated using two Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) and SWAT-DEEP-IFSO models. The results showed that the SWAT-DEEP-IFSO model has a better estimation than the SWAT method. Because Deep Belief Network and an improved optimization algorithm called Improved Fluid Search Optimization (IFSO) algorithm have been utilized in optimizing the hybrid SWAT model that can reduce the error of runoff simulation. After selecting the best model for estimating runoff, the effect of land-use and climate change is evaluated using different scenarios. Results show that the simulated runoff under the influence of climate and land-use changes can impact on the average yearly and monthly runoff. These factors have a significant effect on the average yearly runoff changes and are predicted an increasing trend for average yearly runoff. But climate and land-use changes have a different impact on the different months and for some months of the year the runoff has an increasing trend and for some months the runoff has a decreasing trend. Based on land-use scenarios, it is found that due to the decrease in rangelands and increase in agricultural lands, there is a possibility of severe floods and drought periods in the region, which reduces the water resources of the study area. Rangelands in the arid and semi-arid regions of Iran are under pressure from frequent degradations and extreme climate conditions, which have affected water conservation and delivery of ecosystem services. The timely and efficient assessment of rangeland state/condition impact on water conservation is crucial in rangeland management. This work represents an integrated modelling approach by linking the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) and the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST) models. SWAT simulated hydrologic components, while InVEST provided a decision support system for water conservation. The coupled SWAT-InVEST model was used to analyze the impact of different rangeland conditions on water conservation in the Atrak River basin in Iran's arid and semi-arid climatic zones. Increasing runoff is proportional to rangeland degradation. Our analysesshow a severe degradation of rangelands in Iran. We found that the basin's average runoff varies between 2 and 294.8 m 3 ha -1 yr -1 . Based on our modelling results, about 50% of the basin's runoff came from poor rangelands, 22% from moderate rangelands, and 28% from good rangelands. Thus, a significant impact on water conservation could be achieved through rangeland management in this basin. The SWAT-InVEST integrated modelling approach developed here proved useful for better decision-making under uncertainty.
