Abstract. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding ability of four representative dentin-adhesive systems by applying the micro-shear bond strength (μ-SBS) test method and to evaluate the influence of adhesive area limitation on the bond strength. Two different adhesive application methods were used in the μ-SBS test (with and without adhesives area limitation), and four representative adhesive systems were used in this study. Each dentin surface was treated with one of the four representative adhesive systems, and with twenty samples per group (n=20), each of the four groups underwent a μ-SBS test. The results showed that the bond strength was significantly influenced by the adhesive application method (p<0.05), the adhesive type (p<0.05) and the interaction between the two factors (p<0.05). With regard to the four representative dentinadhesive systems, 3-E&R has a much better bond quality compared to the other adhesive systems. Furthermore, the microshear bond strength test method of restricting the area of both the adhesive and the resin is more reliable for evaluating the bonding property of adhesives to dentin, and it is also adequate for comparing the different adhesives systems.

Objective: the aim of the study was to investigate the effect of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) from green tea extract as collagen cross linking agent on dentin bond durability at different aging times. Materials and Methods: thirty sound premolars were used, they were divided into two groups (15 each) according to the pretreatment protocol. Mid-coronal flate dentine surface was obtained. Group A had no pretreatment done, where bonding agent was placed as the manufacturer instructions. Group B had EGCG pre-adhesive conditioner rubbed before bonding procedures. Bonding procedure was followed by the application of nano-hybrid resin composite in tygon tubes for micro-shear bond strength measurement. Each group was further subdivided in to three subgroups according the aging protocol, where T1 specimens were stored for 24 hours, T2 they were stored for 6 months and T3 they were thermocycled. Results: All data was statistically analyzed, where group B showed statistically significant higher mean bond strength values (19.5 MPa) than group A (12.1MPa) regardless of the aging protocol. There was statistically significant change in micro-shear bond strength results due to aging regardless of the pretreatment. Where T1 revealed the highest mean values (17.1MPa) followed by T3 (15.5 MPa) and the lowest mean values were reported with group T2. There was a statistically significant decrease in mean micro-shear bond strength from T1 to T2 followed by non-statistically significant change in micro-shear bond strength from T2 to T3. The mean micro-shear bond strength at T3 showed statistically significantly lower value compared to T1 value. Conclusion: Green tea extracts (EGCG) is a powerful source of proanthocyanidin that has proved to be a good biological substitute as a cross-linker for preserving the integrity of dentin, enhancing the tooth resin composite interface when compared with universal adhesives present now a days in the market. Recommendation: More long term clinical and laboratory studies are needed to assess the durability of adhesives.

ÖZETAmaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı iki farklı self-etch adeziv sistemin [Clearfil SE Bond (CSE) ve G-Bond (GB)] biyouyumluluk ve dentine bağlanma dayanımlarının değerlendirilmesidir. Gereç -Yöntem: Çalışma için 8 adet çekilmiş çürük-süz insan üçüncü azı dişi kullanıldı. Tüm dişlerin oklüzal yüzeyleri düz bir dentin yüzeyi elde etmek için dişin uzun eksenine dik olacak şekilde aşındırıldı. Dişler rastgele 2 gruba ayrıldı ve dişlerin oklüzal yüzeylerine adeziv sistemler üretici firmanın önerileri doğrultu-sunda uygulandıktan sonra Gradia Direct kompozit ile restore edildi. Örnekler, bağlantı ara yüzeyine dik olacak şekilde kesildi (bağlantı alanı: 1 mm 2 ) ve her grup için 15 çubuk elde edildi. Çubuklar daha sonra mikrogerilim bağlanma testine (Microtensile tester, Bisco, Schaumburg, IL, ABD) tabi tutuldu. Veriler tek yönlü varyans analizi kullanılarak analiz edildi. Biyouyumluluğun değerlendirilmesi için agar overlay testi yapıldı. 24 saat sonra inverted mikroskopla hücre dekolarizasyon zonu ve hücre lizis skorları tespit edildi. Veriler Kruskal wallis ve Mann withney U testi ile değerlendirildi. Bulgular: CSE (23.5 MPa), GB (18.9 MPa) dan daha yüksek bağlanma dayanımı gösterdi (p<0.05). Agar overlay testi sonuçlarına göre ise her iki adeziv de pozitif kontrol grubundan daha az hücre lizisi ve dekolarizasyon zonu gösterdi (p<0.001). Sonuç: Kullanılan bonding sistemlerin sitotoksisiteleri arasında istatistiksel olarak önemli bir fark olmadığı için daha yüksek bağlanma dayanımına sahip olan adeziv sistem (CSE) klinik olarak tercih edilebilir. ABSTRACT Objectives:The aim of this study was to evaluate the biocompatibility and dentin bond strengths of two different self-etch adhesive systems[Clearfil SE Bond (CSE) and G-Bond (GB)]. Materials and methods: Non-carious 8 extracted human third molar teeth were used in this study. The occlusal surfaces of all teeth were ground perpendicular to the long axis of each tooth to expose a flat dentin surface. The teeth were divided into two groups and adhesive systems were applied according to the manufacturer's instructions to the oclusal surfaces of the teeth and restored with Gradia Direct composite resin. The samples were sectioned perpendicular to the adhesive interface to produce sticks (adhesive area: 1 mm 2 ) and fifteen sticks were obtained for each group. All sticks submitted to microtensile bond strength test (Microtensile tester, Bisco, Schaumburg, IL, ABD). Data were analyzed using one-way varyans analysis ANOVA. An agar overlay test was used for the cytotoxicity evaluation. Cytotoxicity was examined by measuring the zones of cell decolorization and evaluating cell lysis by an inverted microscope after 24 hours. Data were analyzed using Kruskal wallis and Mann withney U test. Results: CSE showed higher dentin bond strength mean (23.5 MPa) than GB (18.9 MPa) (p < 0.05).
