Segregation of blackberry cultivars based on the fruit physico-chemical attributes

Abstract: Blackberries are considered as a rich source of phyitochemicals with high nutraceutical value and beneficial health effects. The objective of this work was to determine the berry size and composition status of blackberry cultivars grown under Serbian conditions. Fresh berries of seven blackberry cultivars ('Black Satin', 'Dirksen Thornless', 'Chester Thornless', 'Thornfree', 'Čačanska Bestrna', 'Loch Ness' and 'Navaho') were used as a plant material during two growing seasons. “…This finding shows that bioactive compounds content is higher in samples coming from a region with a milder climate in terms of the temperature and amount of precipitation. Our data recorded for the L-AsAc content of fresh blackberry samples are comparable with those reported in different blackberry cultivars by Milosevic et al [46].…”

“…The addition of BP to crispbread increased its calcium content by 71%, potassium by 57%, iron by 46%, copper by 19%, magnesium by 16% and manganese by 12%. Blackberries are considered as a rich source of phytochemicals with high nutraceutical value and beneficial health effects (Milosevic, Mratinic, Milosevic, Glisic, & Mladenovic, 2012). These berries are also a good source of essential nutrients such as manganese, magnesium and potassium as reported by Amidžić Klarić, Klarić, Velić, and Vedrina Dragojević (2011).…”
