Seed Treatment with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens for the control of Meloidogyne javanica “in vivo” bean culture and its direct effect on the motility, mortality and hatching of M. javanica “in vitro”

Abstract: The gill nematode (Meloidogyne spp.) is a widely distributed phytoparasite capable of causing great yield losses in the most diverse cultures. Therefore, the objective of the present work is to evaluate the effect of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens used in the treatment of seeds as a biocontrol agent of Meloidogyne javanica in common bean, and the direct effect of M. javanica on hatching, motility and in vitro mortality. Experiments were conducted in the municipality of Cascavel, Paraná, in a greenhouse and laborat… Show more

“…The application of products in the seed treatment, in order to increment production has become an increasingly constant agricultural practice. Among the products, fungicides, insecticides, inoculants, antibiotics, hormones and amino acids stand out (Avanzi et al, 2018;Messa, Nunes, & Mattei, 2019;Santinoni et al, 2019).…”

“…Seed treatment was employed as a general approach for applying PGPR that might impart resistance to RKNs in agricultural plant production [ 53 , 54 ]. Seed treatment has been extensively utilized to manage M. incognita , M. javanica , and Rotylenchulus reniformis in various crops, including tomatoes, soybeans, and cotton [ 55 , 56 , 57 ]. PGPRs showed significant potential as biocontrol agents against M. incognita in tomatoes, efficiently promoting plant growth [ 58 ].…”

“…Its two primary domestication centers are the Mesoamerican and Andean regions, which can be differentiated by several distinct traits, such as phaseolin types, molecular markers, morphological features, and isoenzymes (Gepts et al, 1988;Singh et al, 1991;Haley et al, 1994;Beebe et al, 2000;Ansari et al, 2004). Common beans are among the most significant legumes for human consumption ( Messa et al, 2019;Coêlho et al, 2020;Carvalho et al, 2021;Chimenez-Franzon et al, 2022;Ferreira et al, 2023;Silva et al, 2023). However, their productivity can be severely impacted by anthracnose, a disease caused by the fungus Colletotrichum lindemuthianum (Sacc.…”
