Neural network and canonical interrelationships for the physiological aspects of soybean seedlings: effects of seed treatment

The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of soybean seedlings in different seed treatments. The experiment was conducted in the municipality of Mineiros, GO. The soil was classified as Quartzarenic Entisol. The experimental design was randomized blocks in factorial 5x4, corresponding to seed treatments (Water, Cruiser, Fipronil Alta, Fortenza and Standak Top) in four soybean cultivars (Bonus, Ultra, Extra and BKS7830), in four replications. Before planting, pre-planting desiccation was performed. The fertilization used was 450 kg ha-1 of fertilizer 05-25-15 applied in the furrow and in a single dose next to the sowing. During the conduction of the experiment the control of pests, diseases and weeds were carried out as necessary, respecting the best practices and integrated management. The data obtained were subjected to the assumptions of the statistical model, verifying the normality and homogeneity of the residual variances, as well as the additivity of the model. Uni and multivariate tools were applied. The analysis were performed at the interface Rbio and R. The interaction of soybean cultivars and types of seed treatment showed variations in all analysis evaluated in soybean seedlings. The best performances were verified among the cultivars BKS7830 that expressed the largest shoot fresh matter when submitted to Cruiser seed treatment, while the highest root length was expressed in the cultivar Ultra in the Fortenza seed treatment.

The cultivation of soybeans is the main agricultural commodity in Brazil, the increase in the cultivated area in recent years and the productivity of grains is interconnected with numerous factors such as sowing time, water availability, temperature and photoperiod. The objective of this work was to evaluate the duration of phenological sub-periods and the productivity of soybean cultivars from different groups of relative maturation, sown in two seasons in the off-season in the northwest region of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). The experiment was carried out at Agropecuária Bubans geographically located in the county of Ijuí in the state of RS, considered medium locality. The experiment was carried out using a randomized block design with four replications, the experimental units consisted of four lines, four meters long, 0.50 m apart. The treatments were eight soybean cultivars with different groups of relative maturity (4.8, 5.8, 5.9, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.7 and 7.8) sown on January 5 and 22, 2019 (from agricultural zoning, the preferred season for sowing in this region is from october to december), constituting an 8 x 2 factorial experiment (Cultivars x sowing times). Assessments of the duration of phenological sub-periods and of the yield components of the culture were carried out, being measured with total plant height, first pod insertion height, number of lateral branches, number of reproductive nodes on the main stem, total number of nodes on the main stem, number of pods with one, two, three and four grains, pods mass of one, two, three and four grains, total grain mass per plant, thousand seed mass and grain yield. The most productive relative maturity group is 6.3 being sown in the first non-preferential season for soybeans in Rio Grande do Sul. The second sowing time changed the dynamics of association of the measured variables, with changes in the cycle, reductions in the vegetative and reproductive period.

Physiological alterations and enzymatic evaluation of soybean cultivars under water deficit

Drought is one of the main abiotic factors limiting agricultural productivity, capable of having a major impact on the yield of most crops. The knowledge of the physiological and biochemical mechanisms that differentiate resistance and susceptibility to water deficit among soybean strains can be used in the generation of more tolerant cultivars. In this sense, the objective of this study was to characterize physiologically, two soybean cultivars with different patterns of tolerance to drought in the field, by determining photosynthetic rates, lipid peroxidation levels and antioxidant enzyme activity under three levels of water potential. Upon reaching the V4 development stage, the irrigation of the plants was suspended and three data collection were performed: full irrigation (control); moderate water deficit (Ψ = -1.5 ± 0.2 MPa) and severe deficit (Ψ = -3.0 MPa ± 0.2 MPa). Variations in perspiration rate, stomatal conductance, as well as decrease in photosynthetic rate were significant between the two cultivars, where the water potentials in cultivar BR 16 anticipated on average two days achieving the same water potentials in Embrapa 48 cultivar, thus presenting better efficiency in water use. In addition, the increased activity of enzymes and lipid peroxidation were more significant in the cultivar BR 16, demonstrating that this cultivar is less tolerant to drought than Embrapa 48 cultivar, corroborating to agronomic data previously found in the field.
