Role of Jasmonic Acid and Gamma Radiation in Alleviating Salt Stress in Moringa

Abstract: To cite this paper: Hamideldin, N., N. Eid Eliwa and O.S. Hussein, 2017. Role of jasmonic acid and gamma radiation in alleviating salt stress in moringa. AbstractThe present investigation studied the effect of two doses of γ-rays (20, 40 Gy) or foliar spraying of jasmonic acid 0.2 and 0.3 µM on moringa plants under salt stress condition (4000 mg/L NaCl). Foliar spray by jasmonic acid especially (0.3 µM) gave the highest peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase enzymes activity under normal or stress condition. Gamma… Show more

“…The results of the effect of gamma rays on isozymes pattern of both PPO and POD are in agreement with those reported by Hamideldin et al (2017) who found differences in isozymes patterns of both PPO and POD in both bands number and intensity using different doses of gamma irradiation.…”

“…These results show that the combination of gamma irradiation and in vitro selection is able to produce banana varieties that are resistant to fusaric acid. The combination of these two techniques has been shown to increase plant resistance to biotic and abiotic factors (Damayanti et al, 2002;Damayanti, 2004;Hamideldin et al, 2017). Therefore, the probability of success in obtaining somaclone/banana mutant lines resistant to fusarium disease through the application of mutation induction with gamma rays and in vitro selection is high.…”

“…The combination of gamma irradiation and in vitro selection is expected to produce banana varieties that are resistant to fusarium. The combination of these two techniques has been proven to be able to increase plant resistance to biotic and abiotic factors (Damayanti et al, 2002;Damayanti, 2004;Hamideldin et al, 2017). The purpose of this activity is to get the genetic diversity of bananas cv Grand Naine through mutation induction with gamma irradiation and obtained an in vitro selection method for resistance to fusaric acid.…”

“…These may include the use of the plant growth regulators—PGR [ 7 , 8 ], the phytohormones [ 9 , 10 ], or plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria—PGPR [ 11 , 12 ] in order to diminish or eliminate the negative effects of salinity and to obtain the plants that are able to manage salinity stress. In addition, numerous studies of gamma radiation and salinity effects, applied separately or simultaneously, on mono- or dicotyledonous species, such as: Oryza sativa [ 13 , 14 ], Medicago sativa [ 15 ], Ambrosia maritime [ 16 ], Vigna sinensis [ 17 ], Osmanthus fragrans [ 18 ], Moringa oleifera [ 19 ], have been performed. According to Macovei et al [ 13 ], gamma irradiation treatment can enhance the resistance of some plants to abiotic stress conditions, such as salt and drought, by intensification of antioxidant enzymes activity and activation of Transcription-Coupled Nucleotide Excision Repair (TC-NER) pathway.…”
