Revealing the developmental dynamics in male strobilus transcriptome of Gnetum luofuense using nanopore sequencing technology

Abstract: Gnetum is a pantropical distributed gymnosperm genus. As being dioecious, Gnetum species apply female and male strobili to attract and provide nutrition to insect pollinators. Due to its unique gross morphology, a Gnetum male strobilus receives much attention in previous taxonomic and evolutionary studies. However, underlying molecular mechanisms that control male strobilus development and pollination adaptation have not been well studied. In the present study, nine full-length transcriptomes were sequenced fr… Show more

“…These studies open the door to new applications of nanopore technology, which can be used to study DNA complex research work and is expected to be targeted to guide the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Furthermore, nanopore sequencing technology also gives a chance to investigate molecular mechanisms of the TFs [79]. Also, it could provide an in-depth insight into a broad panel of human cell lines [80].…”

“…However, their significance in regulating monoterpene and sesquiterpene biosynthesis has not been reported in C. burmannii. The advent of ONT (Oxford Nanopore Technologies) sequencing has allowed the generation of the full-length transcriptome assisting the quantification of gene expression and detection of key regulatory elements (lncRNAs, alternative splicing, and alternative polyadenylation) (Hou et al, 2021a;Hou et al, 2021b). Compared to Pacbio technology used in the previous studies, ONT sequencing generates more accurate data at the transcription level (Cui et al, 2020).…”

“…Furthermore, a comparative study between PacBio and ONT transcriptomic sequencing of Arabidopsis showed that they have similar efficiency in transcript identification and long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) prediction, but ONT costs less and can quantify expression levels of transcripts compared with PacBio sequencing [14]. ONT sequencing was recently used for the scientific study of several plant species, such as Gnetum luofuense [15,16] and sunflower [17]. A transcriptome study of Camellia sinensis cv.…”
