“…The lizard richness of Estação Ecológica de Santa Bárbara represents 27% of the lizard fauna of the state of São Paulo (Zaher et al 2011). The number of species observed in this study is less than the richness estimates (between 13 and 28 species) for well-sampled areas of Cerrado (Colli et al 2002;Nogueira et al 2009 Kiefer et al 2006), and Parque Estadual do Morro do Diabo (8 species; Dixo et al 2006).…”

“…There are 44 species of lizards found in the state of São Paulo (Zaher et al 2011), representing about 18% of the total lizard richness of Brazil (Bérnils and Costa 2012). Although the lizard fauna of São Paulo is considered the best known in the country, there are sampling gaps for lizards in the north, west, and southwest regions of the state (Zaher et al 2011).…”

Zaher et al (2011) considered P. c. cordylinum and P. c. champsonotus to be full species, based on sympatric occurrences and morphological characters reported by Uzzell (1959). .…”

“…It occurs in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest biomes but it is a rare sight in scientific collections (Dixon and Soini 1986;Cunha and Nascimento 1978;Martins and Oliveira 1998;Argôlo 2004). The species has been recorded for Colombia (Pérez-Santos and Moreno 1988), Ecuador (Pérez-Santos and Moreno 1991), Peru (Schlüter et al 2004), Bolivia (Harvey et al 1998), French Guyana (Starace 1998) and from the Brazilian states of Acre, Amazonas, Rondônia, Pará, Mato Grosso, Bahia and São Paulo (Wucherer 1861;Cunha and Nascimento 1993;Silva Jr 1993;Waldez and Vogt 2009;Bernarde and Abe 2010;Bernarde et al 2011;Zaher et al 2011). In this study, we present a new record of X. scalaris from an Atlantic Forest area in southeastern Brazil.…”
