Show more

“…It is believed that microbial growth inhibition by essential oils is due to the direct damage to cell membrane integrity caused by their lipophilic components, which affects cell pH maintenance and inorganic ion balance. According to the literature, the inhibitory effects of essential oils are consistent with the action of monoterpene and sesquiterpene constituents on the cell membrane, and the damage to membrane produces different effects on microorganisms (Oliveira et al, 2016).…”

“…Myrtaceae is a widely studied species due to its chemical characteristics of medicinal potential and to the presence of secondary metabolites (ALVARENDA et al, 2015;OLIVEIRA et al, 2016b;SIMONETTI et al, 2016). The great diversity of this family is reflected in the Restinga regions of Brazil (LOURENÇO; BARBOSA, 2012), being well representative in São Gonçalo do Amarante, Ceara (CASTRO et al, 2012).…”

“…Leaves have great ecological plasticity, promptly acclimating to environmental variations (SULTAN, 2000;VALLADARES et al, 2000;SULTAN, 2003). Abiotic conditions such as luminosity and water availability can influence the anatomical structure of plants for a better acclimatization to the environment which they are inserted (PACHECO-SILVA;DONATO, 2016;OLIVEIRA et al, 2016b).…”

“…Cis-linalool oxide, p-cymen-8-ol, ethyl geranate, bicyclogermacrene, palustrol, spathulenol, ledol and 1-epi-cubenol, were only identified as a constituent of the essential oil collected in summer. Spathulenol is related to various activities, amongst them antimicrobial activity for the genus Campomanesia (Pastori et al, 2013;Oliveira et al, 2016a). By the fact, that this compound was present in the EOA, but absent in EOO, it could be responsible for the higher activity of the EOA, obtained in summer.…”
