Quantum Dots and Their Multimodal Applications: A Review

Abstract: Semiconducting quantum dots, whose particle sizes are in the nanometer range, have very unusual properties. The quantum dots have band gaps that depend in a complicated fashion upon a number of factors, described in the article. Processing-structure-properties-performance relationships are reviewed for compound semiconducting quantum dots. Various methods for synthesizing these quantum dots are discussed, as well as their resulting properties. Quantum states and confinement of their excitons may shift their op… Show more

“…For example, quantum dots (QDs), as semiconductors, can be excited by chemical and electrochemical reactions. The light emission of QDs controlled by the applied electrode potential enables them to be applied as excellent ECL labels for bioassays [9]. The use of CdTe QDs as the luminophor and K 2 S 2 O 8 as the coreactant is the most popular system in sandwichenhanced ECL immunoassays.…”

“…It is an allotrope of carbon whose structure is a single planar sheet of sp2-bonded carbon atoms that are densely packed in a honeycomb crystal lattice. Hence, graphenes may be considered as the mother of graphite, fullerene and CNTs (Bera et al, 2010).…”

“…The method of using oleic acid as the capping agent has been used before in other systems with different solvents to produce highly luminescence materials. [4,[24][25][26] The use of 1-octadecene/oleic acid/TOP system had not been used up to this point. It was found that this system produced a highly stable colloidal suspension.…”

“…It is also at a constant temperature which will dictate what the saturation pressure will be. * 1 = 1 1 1 [4] As mentioned before, the polymer is considered nonvolatile and the only component this equation is in reference to is the solvent, such as chloroform, water, or some other liquid. The activity coefficient, γ, will be calculated using the Flory-Huggins…”
