Quantification and visualization of alveolar bone resorption from 3D dental CT images

Abstract: Purpose A computer aided diagnosis (CAD) system for quantifying and visualizing alveolar bone resorption caused by periodontitis was developed based on three-dimensional (3D) image processing of dental CT images. “…The results of this prospective randomized comparative study suggests that placement of two‐piece implant following one‐stage technique is as predictable as when two‐stage protocol is followed because no significant differences were seen in crestal bone level alterations between the two groups at 6 months as assessed using DentaScan (Somatum Definition, Siemens).
