Background This work aimed to evaluate oxidative stress in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients treated with tunisian (IM) vs controls and in CML patients with resistance to IM vs patients without resistance to IM. Methods The study included 40 CML patients and 34 controls. Of 40 patients with CML, 26 patients were developed in resistance to IM. The oxidant/antioxidant markers were evaluated by spectrophotometric methods for all used samples. Results For CML patients, increased malondialdehyde (MDA) and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) levels were found compared to controls (P < .001; P = .01). Higher catalase (CAT) activity (P = .048) and lower superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities, reduced Glutathione (GSH) and vitamin C levels were found in CML patients (P < .001). The comparison between the resistant vs no‐resistant CML patients revealed higher MDA level (P = .02) and CAT and SOD activities in IM‐resistant patients (P = .04, P = .03). GPx activity was reduced (P = .04). Furthermore, increased mean ratio of MDA/GSH, MDA/GPx, and SOD/(GPx + CAT) was found in IM‐resistant patients as compared with no‐resistant (P = .01, P = .01, P = .035). The mean ratio of GPx/GSH in the IM‐resistant CML patients was lower than in IM no‐resistant one (P = .039). For IM‐resistant patients, we found negative correlation between MDA level and the ratio SOD/(CAT + GPx) (r = −0.46, P = .002); and positive correlation between SOD and (CAT + GPx) activities (r = 0.38, P = .06) and between GSH level and GPx activity (r = 0.53, P = .01). Conclusions Our results have shown a highly disturbed oxidative profile in IM‐resistant CML patients as compared to no‐resistant. The H2O2 has a key role in the resistance to IM treatment.

Cancer is the major cause of death and many factors that lead to its occurrences, such as environmental pollution and pesticides and other factors. Ehrlich carcinoma development depends on many things associated with the environment, nutrition, personal habits, and family history. The present study aimed to evaluate the potential protective effects of vitamin B17 (VB17) against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) that induced kidney toxicity in female mice. The mice were divided into five groups (first group, control group; second group, VB17 group; third group, EAC group; fourth group, pretreated EAC with VB17; fifth group, cotreated EAC with VB17). Results showed the VB17 in pretreated (G4) and cotreated (G5) groups lead to an improvement in DNA damage and cytological examination, in addition significantly (P < .05) increase in Na+, red blood cell, hemoglobin, hematocrit value, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and MCH concentration, whereas significantly (P < .05) decrease in urea, creatinine, K+, platelets, and white blood cells while insignificant (P < .05) changes in mean corpuscular volume when compared to the EAC group. Many histopathological changes were observed in kidney sections in EAC as marked damage and degenerated, glomerular atrophy, the Malpighian corpuscles that lost their characteristic configuration. On the other hand, a moderate improvement and arrangement in the kidney histological structure in pretreated VB17 + EAC, while a mild enhancement and arrangement of the kidney structure in cotreated EAC + VB17. In addition, depletion in renal P53 and PCNA protein expression compared with the EAC group. It could be concluded that VB17 has a potential renal protective effect against EAC cells induced kidney injury.

This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of Gynura procumbens (GP) leaf extract against cisplatin (CP)‐induced hepatorenal complications in Wister albino rats. Additionally, it aims to detect pol‐yphenolic compounds using high‐performance liquid chromatography with diode‐array detection (HPLC‐DAD). The rats were treated intraperitoneally with CP (7.5mg/kg) to mediate hepatorenal damage. They were then treated with GP extract (75 and 150mg/kg, P.O.) for 7 consecutive days. CP‐mediated hepatorenal biomarkers like alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase, aspar‐tate aminotransferase, creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels were normalized by GP extract in a dose‐dependent manner. Similarly, it significantly reduced CP‐induced oxidative stress inducers including nitric oxide and advanced oxidative protein products. Besides, it enhanced the antioxi‐dant enzymes, and glutathione levels. Histopathological studies showed that CP caused collagen accumulation in the liver and kidney tissues. GP extract drained the collagen mass and acted against hepatorenal damage. Ellagic acid, gallic acid, quercetin hydrate, kaempferol, and rutin hydrate were revealed in GP extract. In‐silico modelling showed good docking scores of the polyphenolic compounds with molecular targets including CYP4502E1, NF‐κB, caspase‐3, and TNF‐α. GP could be an effective therapeutic option for management of anticancer drugs’ complications like CP‐induced organ damage, although clinical studies are required to establish herbal formulation.
