“…Processing roughness, even for a diffuse, porous species such as beech, should be separated from anatomical irregularities if the effect of processing is to be properly evaluated (Gurau et al 2015). However, if anatomy is not removed from the measured profile, the Rk parameter is a good approximation of the processing roughness (Westkämper and Riegel 1993;Gurau 2004;Sharif and Tan 2011).…”

“…All contact angle measurements were performed in the first 30 minutes after sanding, according the suggestion of River et al (1991) and also considering that in industrial processes gluing or lacquering in most cases is also done right after machining. In case of oak, (species with large open pores) we took into account the recommendation that the roughness of the ground tissue should be measured on pore free portions of the surface (Gurau et al 2015). Sessile drop measurements also have been performed accordingly, to avoid the randomly distorting effect of the large open pores.…”

“…This process effects surface roughness and surface coating performance (Gurau et al 2015, Hiziroglu et al 2014, Kılıç et al 2006, Magoss 2015, Vitosyte et al 2012. The surface roughness is signifi cant factor infl uencing overall manufacturing process such as bonding quality, painting properties and processing time.…”
