The need to produce domestic strawberry transplants leads to the search for low-cost cultivation media in Brazil. Raw rice husk (CAIN) is an abundant and economical material in the south of the country. This study aimed to evaluate three substrate conditioners (35%) [carbonized rice husk (CRH), vermiculite and the commercial substrate S10®] added to RRH (65%) and their effects on growth, production and quality of strawberry transplants grown on benches with recirculation of nutrient solution, in a greenhouse. The experimental design was in causal blocks with three treatments and four replicates. Two mother plants of the Aromas cultivar were grown on each plot between November/2016 and March/2017. Transplants were classified into groups according to crown diameter (Class 1: 3.0-5.0 mm; Class 2: 5.1-8.0 mm; Class 3: >8.1 mm). Similarly, the number of leaves, leaf surface, fresh and dry mass of leaves and crowns of 10 transplants belonging to each class were evaluated. With the addition of CAC and vermiculite to the substrate, the predominance of class 2 transplants was obtained. The addition of S10 to CAIN increased the total number of transplants, as well as the number of leaf surface transplants and the dry mass of the aerial part of plants, in class 3 transplants, as well as S10 and vermiculite, provided a greater number of propagules produced.

EfEctos dEl EnriquEcimiEnto con sElEniorEsumEn -El selenio es un elemento traza esencial no solo para animales, plantas y microorganismos, sino también para la salud de las personas. Por ello, parece que aumentar las cantidades de selenio en plantas puede tener implicaciones positivas. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar en un sistema de cultivo sin suelo con fibra de coco el efecto del selenito (Se IV) y selenato (Se VI) en el peso, calidad de las frutas de fresa, así como en variables de crecimiento y contenido de clorofilas de las hojas jóvenes y adultas de la planta de fresa de la variedad 'Splendor'. Los tratamientos fueron: T1 Se(IV)F (foliar), T2 Se(IV)S (sustrato), T3 Se(VI)F, T4 Se(VI)S y T5 control (sin aporte de Se). Se aplicaron semanalmente las mismas concentraciones de Se(IV) y Se(VI). Los resultados del análisis mostraron que el efecto de los tratamientos sobre firmeza, sólidos solubles totales y acidez titratable en frutas fue significativo. Los valores más altos de firmeza y sólidos solubles fueron mostrados por el tratamiento T4. Los mayores valores para el pH se producen en los tratamientos con T2 y T4. Los resultados indican que el Se tiene un efecto positivo sobre los valores de SPAD en hoja vieja. Thus, it appears that increasing amounts of Se in plants could have positive implications. The aim of our study was to evaluate the influence of foliar and substrate application of selenite (Se IV) and selenate (Se VI) on weight, fruit quality, growth parameters and content of chlorophyll from old and new leaves of strawberry plants (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) cv. 'Splendor' in a soilless growing system with coir fiber as substrate. The treatments were: T1 Se(IV)F (foliar), T2 Se(IV)S (substrate), T3 Se(VI)F, T4 Se(VI)S and T5 control (Without application of Se). The same concentrations of Se(IV) and Se(VI) were applied weekly.The results of analysis showed that the effect of treatments on firmness, total soluble solids and titratable acidity in fruit were significant. The highest values of firmness and total soluble solids were showed by treatment T4 Se(VI)S. T2 and T4 treatments showed the highest pH values. The results indicate that Se has a positive effect on SPAD values on old leaf. The production of strawberry seedlings in a soilless cultivation system can be an alternative for the production of seedlings of high physiological and sanitary quality. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the use of different nutrient solutions in mother plants on the production and quality of strawberry seedlings of the Aromas and Camarosa cultivars. The experiment was carried out in two crop cycles: the first cycle in 2016/2017, where four different nutrient solutions (1; 2; 3 and 4) were used for the nutrition of the parent plants of the cultivars under study and the second in 2017/2018, when the most productive solutions (nutrient solution 3 and 4) based on the results of the first cycle were used, together with the two cultivars. The propagules produced were collected, evaluated and rooted in substrate-filled trays, forming plant plugs, which were evaluated for quality. Nutritional solutions influence the propagative potential of the parent plants more than the physiological quality of the plug plant seedlings produced, when they are formed on substrates that provide nutrients. The nutrient solution 4 is the most recommended for the production of strawberry seedlings of the cultivars Aromas and Camarosa, in a soilless system.
