Polymorphism of prolactin gene and its association with growth and some biometrical traits in ducks

Abstract: The main aim of the study was to estimate the polymorphism of prolactin (PRL) gene and its relation with some morphological traits (body weight-BW, length of trunk with neck-LTN, length of trunk-LT, chest girth-CG, length of breast bone-LBB, length of shank-LS) of Muscovy, Pekin and Mulard ducks. A secondary objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of age, origin on ducks' growth performances. Three genotypes at locus PRL/XbaI and one genotype at locus PRL/PstI were found. The results showed that Pek… Show more

“…In a later study [19], keel length in 49-d-old P8, P9 and P33 ducks was similar to our findings. In turn, Mazurowski et al [28] found greater trunk length, keel length, shank length, and smaller trunk length with neck in 49-d-old commercial hybrids of Pekin ducks (AF51) in comparison with the Pekin ducks of lines P8, P9 and P33 evaluated in our study. However, compared to the tested P8, P9 and P33 ducks, AF51 hybrids showed a higher body weight at 49 d of age.…”

“…Prolactin is one of the genes associated with the hens' egg production (Smiley, 2019;Susanti, 2015;Zhang, 2012;Wilkanowska, 2014;Bai et al, 2019). A gene candidate called prolactin particularly regulates the variance in egg output by inhibiting egg biosynthesis throughout the incubation periods and is a receptor to control the growth of follicles and the generation of eggs (Mazurowski et al, 2016;Wang et al, 2011;Asiamah et al, 2019). The prolactin gene can be used to assist the selection that will be performed on IPB-D1 hens to generate new strains of female lines.…”

“…Penelitian keragaman gen PRL dalam hubungannya dengan beberapa ciri morfologi (berat badan, panjang badan, lingkar dada, panjang tulang dada dan panjang shank) entok, itik Pekin dan itik liar telah dilakukan oleh Mazurowski et al (2016). Telah ditemukan tiga genotipe di lokus PRL/XbaI dan satu genotipe di lokus PRL/PstI.…”
