In learning activity processes in Islamic boarding schools, students must study and live in a dormitory. It functions to replace a residential home where the privacy aspect should be taken into consideration. This study aims to observe the privacy aspects closely related to the female students' bedrooms, covering six elements examined in five case studies, including the sex-segregated dormitories, the main function of staying, visual privacy on the dimensions height of the windows, acoustic privacy, and olfactory privacy in terms of the connection between dormitory rooms. It was found that the privacy aspect in the dormitory room still lacked attention due to the addition of space functions and bathroom facilities in it. Meanwhile, adding personal facilities, such as storage and study areas, could enhance the students' privacy. Especially for the type of student bedroom, it is necessary to provide a place for drying clothes by utilizing the balcony area. Besides that, it is required to pay attention to the type, dimensions direction of window openings so that the level of privacy of female students will be more optimal.

Various studies have shown the important roles of spatial environment in shaping behavior and cognitive processes. However educational buildings are often not well designed for this specific purpose. This is especially the case with school dormitory for special need schools. The unavailability of school dormitory planning standards has an impact on variations in the building’s diverse physical settings. The daily activities carried out in the dormitory still found the use of one space for several types of activities. This has an impact on the density level, which further requires spatial adaptation that will be implemented by the residents. This study aims to find out spatial adaptation in three different physical settings of special needs school dormitories with the focus of observation being children with intellectual disabilities. The research method is based on a behavior mapping - place centered mapping approach. As the result, this research shows that there are variations in different spatial adaptations in responding to each of the physical setting conditions of the dormitory. The form of spatial adaptation involves changes in the physical setting and behavior, namely adjustment, reaction, and withdrawal. Furthermore, this type of spatial adaptation has different ways in achieving the ideal conditions of activities carried out in the physical setting of the dormitory.

A shared room as a public facility in a dormitory is a particular facility that supports student learning activities. The learning process carried out together can increase student creativity and higher productivity. It shows from the learning ethos of students who have the principle of group learning. Of course, with this habit, facilities are needed to accommodate activities with a large enough capacity. An attractive space design can influence a person’s psychology to learn and interact. This study aims to improve the shared space design quality to make it more attractive for students’ learning activities and social interactions. The behavior architectural design approach is used based on the questionnaire results, which states that students have not maximally used the shared space. The aspect of behavior variables used in this research methodology is interaction. Interaction is the researcher’s primary reference to answer the effectiveness of using shared space as a public space. The result shows that the standard room can be maximized as a space for activities that support the learning process and socialize for students. This finding can be a reference to improve the design consideration for future student dormitory design, especially for shared room design in the dormitory.
