Performance of dual‐band AMC antenna for wireless local area network applications

Abstract: This study focuses on the design, simulation, and fabrication of a coplanar waveguide miniaturised wearable antenna that is fully implemented in textile materials and operable at 2.45/5.8 GHz for wireless local area network applications. This antenna is assumed to be placed near the human body, so that it needs to be miniaturised with excellent performances. To increase the performance of the short‐distance textile antenna and to control the specific absorption rate, an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) is p… Show more

“…The circular shape was used for the ISM band, whereas the truncated patch was used for the GPS band. In [ 297 ], the authors proposed an AMC based coplanar waveguide antenna for the ISM bands, as illustrated in Figure 11 b. The AMC structure improved the performance and provided the isolation between the antenna and the human body.…”

“…Also, the effects due to electromagnetic intercoupling between the wearable MIMO antenna and the human tissue should be taken into account and the potential effects due to long term use must be noted 5 . Hence special precautions need to be addressed during wearable textile antenna design 6‐9 . Different real‐life circumstances are likely possible for the wearable antenna systems such as folding, bending, twisting washing, etc, which may degrade the antenna performance 10 …”

“…To insulate the antenna from human tissue, a multiband AMC surface is incorporated on the opposite side of the radiator and presented in Reference 7. A coplanar waveguide AMC antenna operating at 2.45/5.8 GHz with reduced SAR is reported in Reference 8. In Reference 9, they have described a compact, flexible, slotted Jerusalem Cross AMC antenna operating at 2.45 GHz for telemedicine applications.…”
