Objective: To develop interactive technology of care to strengthen the mother-baby bond in the hospitalization process in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, based on scientific literature and based on the perceptions of mothers and the health team. Method: This is an exploratory-descriptive, qualitative research, carried out between October / 2016 and June / 2017, through individual interviews with a group of 16 professionals from the multiprofessional health team and a group of 22 mothers with children admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a large hospital located in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul. Results: The qualitative research process, combined with the literature review, resulted in the development of an interactive care technology, called “ Mother-baby bond: a care history ”, with the purpose of strengthening the mother-baby bond in the hospitalization process in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Final considerations: The concept of a mother-baby bond in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit transcends the technical care of the multidisciplinary team. The bond was understood as a unique and interactive process that expands and strengthens as mothers are welcomed and included by the multiprofessional team in the intensive care process.

Objective: to identify mothers' perceptions about the pain in their premature babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Methods: evaluative, quantitative study with investigative nature conducted with 19 mothers of hospitalized premature newborns. Data were obtained from closed questions, answered by mothers. Results: from the participants, two (10.5%) reported that newborns are unable to feel pain. From the 17 mothers who said that premature babies can feel pain, the majority (94.1%) identified crying as a characteristic of pain sensation. Eleven (64.7%) stated that uneasiness is a sign of pain in newborns. Conclusion: for the proper management of neonatal pain it is essential that mothers know the signs of pain in premature newborns, and that health professionals instruct this recognition, through the enhancement of the maternal presence and practice of effective communication between professionals and newborns’ families.

Background: The Kangaroo Mother Care method allows for early hospital discharge and ensures outpatient follow-up care for newborns. This study aim to investigate mothers' feelings upon returning home and their perceptions of the care delivered by the professionals who conduct the follow-up examination on their newborn at a Kangaroo Mother Care stage three outpatient clinic. Methods and Fidings: An exploratory qualitative study was conducted in August 2015 with a sample of eleven mothers who visited the follow-up outpatient clinic of a public maternity hospital. Semi-structured interviews were performed, and the content analysis technique was used. The analysis resulted in the following thematic categories: "Mothers' feelings upon returning home" and "Mothers' perceptions of the care received". Despite feeling relieved upon returning home, the mothers also felt insecure about caring for their children. However, they were satisfied with the care received at the outpatient clinic. Its limitations are relative to the generalisation of its results. Conclusion: Health education is essential to preparing mothers to return home because it promotes confidence and autonomy in the care of children.
