The SWOT Analysis of Strengthening Character Education In Junior High School

This study aims to describe the swot analysis of character education strengthening in junior high schools which includes (1) character education curriculum management, (2) results of swot analysis of character quality improvement, and (3) the principal's strategic plan for strengthening character education based on SWOT analysis. This research was conducted at SMPN 15 Malang using a qualitative approach with a case study research design. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and documentation studies. Analysis of the data obtained produces findings that are in accordance with the problems being faced by the school. The results of the study are (1) character education curriculum management applied in the preparation of learning schedules, lesson plans, syllabus; and scientific journals. The Character Education Strengthening Program was formed through four components including school inputs, processes, outputs and outcomes, (2) the results of the swot analysis found that schools conduct conditional evaluations and are not tied to instruments, then reported to the Office of Education, integrating Adiwiyata values in learning and exposing the results of school work, and (3) the principal's strategic plan for strengthening character education is to use an aggressive strategy, an opportunity utilization strategy, a survival strategy, and a diversification strategy. Steps for Strengthening Character Education in learning include determining the size of the short-term and long-term programs, setting program indicators, assessing program performance, comparing performance results, connecting programs, and analyzing performance errors, and taking corrective actions.

The approach of science learning in Islamic schools is not only directed to master the concept and its application. However, science is used as a medium to foster positive character, increase faith in the creator, relate well to others, and maintain harmony with the environment. The purpose of this research is to express a new design of science learning which is integrated with character education, Islamic values, and local wisdom. This research method is preliminary research with qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this research: (1) identification of Islamic values, national character and local wisdom to be integrated (2) analysis of science curriculum for one subject (2) Initial design pattern of integration of Islamic values, national character and local wisdom in science learning (3) Integrated learning science strategy. This research concludes that polyculture strategy can be used as life science learning alternative, more meaningful and more humane. Need further study to apply this strategy to a broader domain.

Pendidikan karakter tidak bisa dilepaskan dari substansi pendidikan dalam mengatasi berbagai problema anak bangsa. Hal ini sebagaimana dialami juga oleh MIM Sidorejo terdapat beberapa permasalahan yang ditemukan antara lain: (1) Metode pembelajaran guru di kelas dalam mengaitkan substansi materi dengan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter kurang optimal; (2) Sistem sekolah yang menguatkan nilai pendidikan karakter dalam menumbuhkan dinamika iklim budaya islami sekolah belum terbangun dengan baik. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan kreativitas guru dalam pembelajaran dengan metode dan media pembelajaran yang dapat menginternalisasi nilai-nilai karakter islami, serta dapat mengembangkan budaya sekolah yang islami. Metode yang digunakan Participatory Rural Apraissal (PRA) yang dibagi menjadi tiga tahap yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan penyusunan laporan. Hasil dari pengabdian ini antara lain 1) menghasilkan teknologi pembelajaran berkarakter islami berupa metode dan media pembelajaran yang didasarkan atas rumusan desain perencanaan program pembelajaran aktif dengan spirit nilai-nilai islami untuk membentuk karakter peserta didik, 2) budaya sekolah islami yaitu melalui penciptaan lingkungan belajar yang kondusif, baik di kelas maupun luar kelas seperti melaksanakan peraturan/tata tertib yang telah ditetapkan bersama antara guru dan tim pengabdian, dan tercipta perilaku positif yang mendukung penguatan literasi dan karakter peserta didik.
