Partial Discharge Detection with High‐Frequency Band through Resistance–Temperature Sensor of Hydropower Generator Stator Windings

Abstract: SUMMARYIn order to improve the signal to noise ratio for partial discharge (PD) detection using a resistance-temperature detector laid in the stator windings of a hydropower generator, the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is applied as a kind of time-frequency analysis. Relying on the combination of frequency resolution and time resolution using an applied power voltage phase angle distribution, PDs occurring in voids of stator windings are expected to be found within a mixed environment of strong noise and … Show more

“…53 From the time-frequency analysis of the resistance-temperature sensor, the stator winding discharge detection can be improved, as the phase angle can aid in distinguishing signals from noise. 25 Temperature is also adopted as a condition parameter for estimating other variables. A threedimensional mathematical model relates the temperature, thermal deformation, and thermal stress of magnetic poles fields, in the rotor winding inter-turn short circuits.…”

“…The diagnosis of partial discharge allows accurate assessment of the degree of insulation degradation of the generating system. 25 These discharges can partially or entirely break down the insulation between conductors. The partial discharges produce physical indicators such as light flashes, acoustic noise, temperature gradients, chemical reactions, and electromagnetic pulses.…”
